Ok - If ya dont read the Engine Performance or General Tech and didnt see....My car is broke, again..

Anyways - My car broke after I had quit my last summer job. The turbo blew, I put my last 200 into a 14b...

Well the car never ran right after the Turbo blew, and eventually something bad happened :( Im not POSITIVE on what broke exactly, all i remember is that there was a clicking sound from what sounded like the left from of the engine bay while i was driving the car, next thing I know the car stalls and dies out, I put it in neutral and start it up again on the road, when the car turns over I HAVE A KNOCK! AAAH! I shut the car off and its been stored ever since.......

Basically from what I am being told, Just rebuild the whole engine. Since no one seems to be able to tell exactly what is wrong with the car without taking it apart, I have been told to just rebuild the engine.
---------------

Now since im on a budget.......what is the cheapest way to do this? I have been thinking about trying to rebuild the 7bolt myself. How hard is it and what kind of tools are needed? If I do it myself it SHOULD run me around 600 yes?

Also....

If anyone has gotten a 7bolt rebuilt by a shop instead of DIY, can you enlighten me on how much it cost you and how long the car was in the shop???

Thanks Yall. Hoping to have the Talon back, Nothing is the same as a little Spoolage.

IMO-

Cheapest route is to buy a used 7bolt shortblock that runs, do all the work yourself and that will save you tons.

Yes I know it won't be like having the security of a rebuilt motor but, your looking for the cheapest way to get the car working.

Good luck.

What kind of tools and mechanic know-how are needed for dropping in a used 7bolt Shortblock??? Ive had basic Auto Mechanics and advanced Auto Body classes in highschool.

My main worry is that I wont have the right tools to do the engine work myself, and that it requires more mechanical skill than I have under my belt etc.

Would appreciate any additional feedback anyone has :)

Heading to bed for the night but before I do....

How hard is it to yank the engine out of the bay and drop in a 7bolt Longblock???

Would it be pretty easy to do with a chain through the top of the garage???

Which would be easier??/

a. Rebuild motor
b. install shortblock
c. longblock

its not hard, yes you can do it with a chain from the top of the garage, the easiest is the long block route, because theres less chance of having to pull the engine out again because of a human error on your part......long block is'nt the cheapest route though, that would be short block................ :dsm:

if you're building an engine and you have good mechanical/automotive experience, just make sure to prep your mating surfaces, be generous with the lube, measure twice, and torque in steps.

I think i am going to try to find a longblock..

If all i have to do is unhook the old 7bolt and lift it out and then drop a new 7bolt in, I could do that, Im atleast THAT capable as a mechanic heheh.

A longblock should cost me about 600 yes? If thats all i spend and do the labor myself, Yeah I could do that and have the talon running again by the 2nd week of December if I find a good Longblock soon.

What kinda things should I watch out for when buying a complete Longblock???
