Okay, for the dumbass's that seem to be thinking I'm some ### ricer... the name is nothing more than satire... but anyways to my argument as why this car is not a collector car...

taken from cars.com

less-costly but intriguing sports cars, such as the John Cooper Works edition of the Mini Cooper S, the Ford SVT Mustang Cobra or Mustang Mach 1, or a special-edition Chevrolet Corvette? They may not depreciate close to the zero mark, but don’t bet that they’ll be worth a small fortune one day. Owners of seemingly worthy sports cars may be surprised and disappointed when their prized possessions wind up depreciating like normal vehicles and the collectors don’t show up waving stacks of dollars.

Another quote taken from a car collection site

A wide range of circumstances combine to make an old car an appreciating asset: How many were built, the car’s desirability when it was new, etc.

Now while there was only one with that body kit, the vehicle was mass produced. It's got no optional engine, or highly desired items that make it more special to anyone outside the DSM community. We all had options of PW, PWDL, alarms, leather, etc...

My point being:

Most of you guys here think this car is gold... but it's fools gold to anyone outside the DSM community which basically means this... while the car is more valuable than any other 1g DSM... it is not going to be worth an exponential amount of money on the mass market.

im pretty sure, that one day a DSMer would be willing to pay a grip load of money for that car...

looking at those concept cars, I can't help but notice that the bulge is on the wrong side of the hood.

Now either they have Evo engines in em or they just did that for looks.

no somewhere along the line some idiot flipped the picture because he thought it looked better that way or maybe because he thought the car's were right hand drive and someone had messed it up before him. either way the thing's on the wrong side, all the concepts had the bulge on the left side of the hood and they didn't even have a reversed 4g63 in the evo's until 1995 i believe (whatever year the evo 4 came out) and those were built earlier than that.

that is a very sweet sweet dsm, i would agree with the occasional ride and the no modding it, and since nobody else has yet, ill give you 14k for it :thumb:

Oh my God.. Adsorbing information from websites, and preaching it all at the same time. None of us are claiming that the car is worth endless amounts of money.

It's the fact that It's the only car like it in existance, A.K.A. "one of a kind", that makes it a collector car.

Don't make judgements about something you aren't familiar with (outside of reading about it on webpages). One person's trash might be another's gold. :thumb:

I can go to a Ford dealer and buy 10 SVT Cobras. I can go to a BMW dealer and buy 20 John Cooper Works edition Mini Coopers. Then I can go back to the Ford dealer and buy 5 or 10 Mach 1's.

You could never go to an Eagle dealer and buy 2 of these. In fact, you could never go to an eagle dealer and buy one of those.

As to your second quote, only one was made. It doesn't matter that it's a variation of a production vehicle; you could never go to an Eagle dealer and say "I'd like to purchase a Fittipaldi Talon, please." Well, you could, but you probably wouldn't be leaving with one :p

Another resident dumbass on the board...

these were examples of what makes a car a collectible... not that I didn't know what one already is, especially since I have probably been in to cars a wee bit longer then you junior. I will give you the trash/treasure thing... because to 9 out 10 serious car collectors, this is just a mere production vehicle with a 1 off body kit, no one knows it's value to be more then any 1g with a body kit you couldn't just buy on ebay. I posted those websites so that you could see what "collectors" thought made a car a collectible, without preaching my biased opinion. I'm basically stating this car is not worth more then $1-1500 more then the avg 1g DSM. If someone wanted to pay more for it because they thought it was valuable, to each his own.

Now back to the subject of car... let the kid drive it and enjoy it. It's his car... while he shouldn't mod it heavily (if he does believe it to be the messiah of DSMs), he should be able to drive it as he pleases. Let him have that. If it was my car I would personnaly sell it back to Mitsubishi/Chrysler to see if possibly they want it for their own museums.

You guys crack me up... you could never buy a fittipaldi edition because, 1 it was never produced, 2 eagle no longer exist.

Why would it be worth nothing more then the avg 1g... I can have leathers as an option. No extra power, no special color, some rims (mass produced albeit) some special badges, no innovations, great... a car with a different body kit. Ask your selves this.... why are the Type Rs considered the collector cars of the future? Lets compare shall we...

1. very limited amount produced (2000 in all years produced with the DC2 chassis excluding JDM version)... just as the Fittapaldi edition 1 of 1

2. Limited options... Honda never offered the motor, the interior options, suspension components to the other line up of mass produced integra's. Oh the Fittapaldi... well let's see... I got my special seats, a badge, a steering wheel, and a body kit like no other (albeit an 80-early 90s looking one) but all my stuff is like every other DSM on the road... no special suspension, motor.

3. Media hype/innovation/trend setting... Honda has again captured the medias attention by outdoing a vehicle that was already popular... DSM yeah... didn't I read a post earlier some places don't even know who makes an Eclipse, let alone a Talon. Last time I read, there wasn't any huge hype or raves about any DSM other then a cheap go fast car with reliability problems.

I challenge anyone to find me one reason this car is a true collectible before I will admit being wrong on the subject. Find me a reason someone should drop a good chunk of money on a car that is gonna be just as reliable as any other DSM. Until then I stand by my argument, this car is worth little more then your above avg 1g outside the DSM community.

Well, heres my thought... keep it as original as possible, buy a beater DSM to have fun in and keep that one for showing off,(by that I mean you can drive it occasionally to local shows) As for the value, right now it may not be worth the tons of money some claim but if he keeps it stock in about ten or twenty years it may be worth 20,00-30,000. Heck look at shows like classic car garage on tv..70 hemi cudas in factory original condition can bring 40,000 to collectors and they were mass produced,(thousands of them.) Keep the signed title and all paperwork in a safe place, keep the car as original as possible, keep the miles low, and do some research over the next couple years, Is Fittipaldi known for making limited editions of cars. Diffrent makes and models or is he known for just DSM's.
Time will tell the value.

Dude, you are a dick. The god damn title is signed by Fittapaldi. Look at our cars, not many people want to get involved w/ these cars for the simple fact that they break or fall apart. Now we have a completely rare car, 1 of 1 car, and you have the nerve to talk trash. The whole point about it being a collector car, is b/c to a DSM fan, it IS a collector car.

Nobody, especially me, cares about what you think is a collector car. Either talk to the guy about his absolutely rare car straight up or shut your mouth.

BTW- Fittipaldi Talon, that thing is sick man :thumb:

Nevermind the fact that it was auctioned at over $9000 - to people who have had no prior interest in the DSM scene to begin with. I think that pretty much defines it right there. When was the alst time you saw a stock 1990 DSM go for over $9000? It's collectors status isn't really up for debate.

I'll make my final comment on this car now to the appease the people that believe this car is something superior/special... because it's a DSM and well DSMs are pretty much the beaters of the Spocom community... this car will be worth something possibly in the future when Fittapaldi passes on... it's got his name plate and the fact he once owned it, I'm sure someone who is willing to pay for anything with his name on it will put the money up to have in some Fittapaldi museum. But to those whose lives see a better car outside the DSM community would very well know they wouldn't pay more then a couple extra grand for it's special heritage. If you guys need something special to hold on to because we all know that our cars aint really worth sh1t... here you go... your special Fittapaldi edition messiah is here.

My 1st car, a 289 4spd 66 Mustang I got for $2500 in 1987, I could probably get 10-20K for it now, dirty dinged and all. I know DSMs dont have the Mustang/muscle car heritage but my point is this being 1 of 1 owned and titled by Fittipaldi may be worth something to someone someday.

Id drive it sparingly on nice days, do not wash or wax it in sunlight, and keep it pristine even if that means putting it in storage when you move out some day.

FittipaldiTalon: The auction that was posted earlier, was that the auction your dad obtained the car at? If so, when did he buy it? If not, how did he pick it up, when did he buy it, and how much did he pay for it?

Pretty sure that's his dad who bought it at the auction - the auction date & price is on the page there. Especially since he said that there had only been three owners - Fittipaldi being the first, then the second who auctioned it to his dad who was third.

I talked to my dad, that auction was not actually the one he bought it at... he bought it at a kruse auction in miami florida, he paid around 10,000$ for it , he forgets the specific number, then he brought it to tampa to sell it but he didnt get enough for it and thats why he didnt sell it---- luckily he didnt sell it

I think he bought it around '95-'97'
