Alright...I picked up a used set of Eibach ProKit springs for a $115 shipped off trader and now I am looking at shocks. I am looking for something cheap, well kind of cheap, because I don't really have any money. I am running stock shocks with about a 2 inch drop right now(on there when I bought the car). It rides like ass. Anyhow...I found some Tokico Blue's on Ebay for $215 shipped...that seems like a good deal. Will this give me a good enough ride until January when I get a job and get some more money?

Thanks in advance.

The Blues are an OEM replacement, and do not offer a stiffer rebound than your stock ones. The Prokits are considerably stiffer than stock springs, so your compression and rebound rates will not match. Hence, the ricer pogo-effect.

IMO, save your money, and buy some Konis.
(I've used the Blue's before, on an integra and blew them out very quickly. They're not meant to be lowered on.)

Please provide the data on this or at least a URL. I've never seen a dyno plot for Tokiko Blues. Thanks.

I have no idea what the second half of the above means, but would argue (but only a little, no worries) with the first half. The springs on the car now are 246/151. Prokits are 330/160. So only the fronts are stiffer, which is why they make the understeer worse.

In any event, the dudes at RRE suggest Iluminas for ProKits and I am in position to argue with that suggestion.

hello,

the tokico 'blues' are not factory replacements, but a performance shock that will work with the lowering springs fine. just no adjustment to them. they use the 'blues' as thier base setup for thier suspension kits. i have gc coilovers and upper mnts. w/illuminas and think that it is a really good 'budget' setup. i had 'blues' on my last car w/eibach springs and they worked great for 2 yrs before i sold it. my .02.

Eclipse 2WD 1995-99 HPK231: Allows lowering of 1"
Prokits lower on 95-99 FWD eclipe, lowers: 1.2"

As for shock rebound rates, for Blues, I've e-mailed Tokico for the info, and await their reply.
My first hand experience with the Blues, (1990 Acua Integra LS) is that they have almost identical compression and rebound resistance, as well as rebound speed. (Speed, as in the piston pushrod distance, over elapsed time.)

Yes, I admit it...I'm a bit of a dork. But here's what a friend and I did:

We took a stock front shock (with spring off of course), and compressed it by pushing the piston pushrod, all the way inside the shock body. (At bottomed-out position)
Next we took a stop watch, and timed it 5 or 6 times, to see how long it took the piston pushrod would fully extend. Then we took the average of the our results. (And no, the stock shock was not blown-out.)

We repeated this experiment with the new front Tokico HP Blue, and found that the average rebound time was nearly identical to the OEM!

The problem with this experiment, is that even though the elapsed rebound time was identical, the resistance rate COULD have been greater on the HP Blues, than stock.
Yes, this is subjective, but upon feeling the resistance of the of the rebound rate, (by scientifically holding my hand on it), I could not feel ANY difference between the rebound forces of the Blues, or the stock shock.

(I'm not at all satisfied with this reply, but I'm waiting on my hard data from Tokico.)

---------------------------------
As for matching the springs' compression rate, with the shocks' rebound rate---do I really have to go into this again Jtoby? (...sigh...you're intelligent enough to know why they have to match.)

Thanks in advance.

I have ran the blues with pro kits for 4 years, no doubt in my mind that they will last you until Jan.

I guess I just love to corner my car really hard, and end up replacing parts faster because I ussualy push components to its' limits. Plus I was lowered 2+ inches on my Blues
From case to case, people will always love or hate something.
