I bought one for my camaro a few years ago and I still had my stock round shifter sitting around. I had to drill it out inside of (above the threaded part) the knob and twist it on really tight to make some new threads in the plastic. I kind of like it like that though, because now it sits really low on the shifter. I try and get a pic up tonight... if it stops raining. Before that I had one off an older honda accord that I pocketed from the local pick-a-part. ;)

I stumbled across this website from someone on tuners, but they have some cool round knobs at a decent price. I like the "chrome smoke" color. $32 shipped isn't too bad :thumb: http://www.speed-source.net/

a couple weeks ago i went to lime rock park, and picked up a wicked nice omp shift knob for like 50 bucks. its a chrome ball that sits really low. its heavy so it makes all the shifts seem easier. easially 100x better than the "dildo" original shifter

Sweet. I ordered one of these from Mach V a few days ago. Just waiting on them to ship it to me. I was wondering what it would look like in my 1G. Thanks :thumb:

mine came in like 3 days...little taller than i expected but a nice knob.

I have read that they are slow. I am hoping they aren't that slow. Still it is taking a long time just to ship the knob IMO I am used to Summit Racing shipping where it's on my door a day or two after I order it online. Now that's good service :thumb:

What do you guys think si the best aftermarket shift knob out there...and im NOT talking about the cheap neon POS taht you find at autozone or partscity...

whats the best quality knob out there? My stock one is worn and ugly...and im looking to get a different one. Suggestions...

as far as knob quality, you get what you pay for...its really a completely personal thing. I like the stock knob and have replaced mine with another stock knob. I like the type R knobs but dont know if they fit or not.

I've had the sphereical (sp) momo one (half leather half metal) and I liked it. Personally, I would rather have an oblong one made of leather. It won't get that hot in the sun, it will match your interior, it won't stick out with flashy lights/metal, and won't be ice cold during the winter (if you drive during the winter). Specifically the one I'm thinking of is on the stock first generation miata. I hate the metal ones, I always had to use some clothing to grip the knob on sunny days.

Whatever you decide to get, make sure it actually threads onto your shift pole, or whatever it's called. If it has the crappy allen screws, stay far, far away. I've gone through many of those and they just completely suck. You'll wind up tightening the screws every couple of days. :notgood: Actually a suggestion of what you can do..........take your stock knob that is falling apart, and tear it apart til you get to the threaded plastic insert inside. Then you'll have to actually reshape it to a perfect cylinder, but when it's done, you can jam it inside any shift knob you want, and the threads will fit perfect on you car. hope that makes sense. If not, let me know and I'll try to re-explain.

i have the greddy weighted shfit knob.. the one thats polished and u can put a red/blue/white sticker in the middle.. direct screw on.. its nice and i love the weight.. but i miss the grip of leather..

I'm actually kinda interested in the Grant Evolution shift knob. Looks pretty good, hand made, looks stock but 60 bucks. P/N GRT-1322 from summit. Anybody ever try this one? Sorry to veer the topic, mokkema.

Another one for Greddy counter weighted shift knob.

Razo RA68 by far the best 1G knob, ergo handle, soft leather, 400grams, half the hieght of a 1G ####, and way thinner than a 2G. slips right into the palm and fingers easily wrap all the way around. Uses plsatic threaded inserts that get screwed into the top of the knob from underneath no allen mess. And it goes down to the boot :thumb:

I am looking for a new shift knob and I want one that screws on. I dont like the stock 1gs and the evo ones are ok all though I have never seen one in person.

So what is the best shift knob that won't break the bank and will screw right on.

I had the Greddy Counterweight on my old N/T, and it was nice. Very heavy, but it does get hot if in direct sunlight. I think they are around 30ish.

I'm not sure you'll find an answer on the forums. Shift knob is pretty personal IMO. One guy might love a stocker's feel, while another might love the feel of a leather ball, and yet another may like the feel of an aluminum stick..

Personally, I used to have the knob pictured below (Razo), but the plastic ring that screwed onto the shifter broke after about 3 years of use.. I bought a Momo 'Race' satin aluminum knob to replace it. I like it too, although the shape is very different and still feels kinda weird in my hand. After using it for a few months, I think I liked the shape of the Razo better.
