I've got some 17x7 wheels with an offset of 40. I'm planning on putting them on my 2G, but I need some new tires for them. The general recommendation that I've been hearing is 215/50s. I was wondering if it's even possible to run 225/45s and if so, what benefits/downsides there would be.

TIA, Phya

Yes it's possible to run 225/45/17's. You'll probably find that 7 inches is the minimum recommended rim width for that tire. There's nothing particularly wrong with either choice. Both should fit fine. The 215's are a bit larger in diameter then stock. The 225's are close. 215/45/17 would be a better performance choice.

i would think the 225's woul be superior go with a 225/40/17 thats about same as stock height and much wider offering you better traction, g-luck

Eh too late. Thanks tho guys, I appreciate it. In case you guys were wondering, I just went with the 215/50s. The 225s cost that much more, and I didn't feel I really needed them.
