I have a 96 gst, and its pretty much all stock, just some low resistance spark plug wires and some spitfire plugs. okay, well i noticed last night that my clutch pedal sticks about half way down to the floor. When it does my clutch wont let me put it into gear.I have to put my foot under the pedal and pull it back to me. Then i can put in gear just fine. It also pretty much only happens after i've raced it. If someone could enlighten me on what the problem is it would be very helpful.

first, check ur clutch fluid resevoir. is there any fluid? next, check your master and slave cylinder for any leaks. bleed ur system to run any air out of ur lines. adjust clutch. if all isnt good, then check for a busted pedal assembly.

I just checked my clutch master cylinder(same thing a my clutch fluid resevoir right?) Half of the cap was off and i don't think that theres any fluid in there. It uses brake fluid to power the clutch right? so what type should i use to fill it up with?dot3,4,or 5.1? i know dot 5 won't work.

I would suggest having only one type of fluid in there, so if you don't know definately bleed it and fill it up with one type.

okay, first thanks for all the info. Now i have 3 more questions.

1. Is there any way to tell what kind of fluid i have in there?(i highly doubt it but i gotta ask...)

2.(if 1 is a no, which i figure it is)How do i bleed the system?

3.How much brake fluid will i need after i bleed the system?

and please don't flame me for not knowing how, I'm very new to this stuff and i'm just learning, i mean aside from simple oil, spark plug, and like brakes, and interior work, i don't know too much.

Well, i had a nasty leak in my lower lutch line going into my slave cylinder. I replaced it and the slave cylindr itself. Clutch still feels horrible, after driving it home from bakersfield(ir:around 50-60 miles) it felt like the clutch had gone out like before. I got it home and inspected my slave clinder, master, and the clutch lines, no leaks, no wet spots, fluid resevoir was full.I checked the insied of the car as well where the clutch linkage is and the pushrod, no wet spots. So that means i'm not leaking anything. So whydoes my clutch feel like this? Please help me.

You should check for leaks first before you start to bleed the system. Most likely it's your slave cylinder. Check www.vfaq.com and look under slave cylinder replacement, it will also tell you how to bleed. If the cylinder needs replaced, you would need to drain the system so you don't have to worry about what type of fluid was in there. I would also change the rubber hose to ss line.

What kind of clutch do you have? If you have upgraded to a performance clutch and you need to replace you slave cylinder, make sure you pick up a extended push rod for the cylinder. I picked mine up at www.dsmparts.com. Good luck. :talon:

I recently had this problem with my gvr4, big pain in the neck, literally! After bleeding the system several times and adjusting the clutch a couple times (BTW the most uncomfurtable position Ive ever been in) I finally found out that once warmed up, my clutch line was leaking on the backside out of sight. I would try inspecting everything again once the clutch is warmed up (fluid, new lines etc) just to make sure, its really easy to miss a small thats letting air into your system.

As for the SS clutch line previously suggested, I got mine from extrememotorsports.com and am really pleased with it; stiffens up the clutch some and you wont have to worry about bleeding your system again from another toasted, rubber line. :thumb:

well heres the rest of my story. I took it to my uncle whose a mechanic. He replaced my slave cylinder, then noticed my lower clutch line was screwed up where it meets the slave cylinder. He replaced that too. I got my car back and drove home(around 65 miles) and when i got off the highway the clutch felt horrible again. I realised he didn;t adjust the clutch. I checked the vfaq and my chilton guide but i still didnt understand fuly how to adjust it myself. (i like diagrams and pictures to guide me..) so i took it to the mitsu dealership. They fixed it.... or so i thought. After driving to work and getting into fifth gear, the clutch felt xtremely hard. It also fully engages about an inch into it. Also when i get right off the highway, its slipping bad and clutch is almost impossible to push down. Im taking it back to the mitsu dealrship tomorrow to see what they can do, but does anyone have any info for me?

my guess is he didn't tighten the rod locknut tight enough and it slipped and now it needs adjusting again.
Any help?

Check for play in your clutch pedal. Move the clutch and see if the master cylinder rod moves whenever the pedal moves. If it doesn't read the drivetrain tech article about removing and welding the assembly. I tried to not do this and it cost me a tranny and now that I have done it the difference is night and day.

stock clutch, the dealership fixed it. but now the point of engagement moves up and down when im driving sometimes itll be hella hard to push down, and it will engage at the very top. other times it will be normal. i think maybe theres air bubbles in my clutch line. I'm thinking about getting it bled at the dealership, cuz theyll prolly do it right. this clutch is pissing me off.
