A few years back Mazda put out a concept called the Mazda6 MPS, and they're making it a production car!

It's going to be called the MazdaSpeed 6 here - and will be a 2.3L Direct-Injection Turbo I-4 with 260hp, with an Active Torque Split AWD system.

I love that torque curve!

Mazda's just earned a new place at the top of my To-Buy list... I wonder how much it'll cost?

I didn't know it had 6-spd and the switchable diff. :thumb:

the mazda is sweet, i just hope for mazda motor insted of the ford one the 6 uses now!

The global launch of the highest performing, best handling sedan Mazda has ever built will bring the same level of ultimate Mazda6 performance to all major markets around the world, even though the product name may vary in respective regions.

I doubt the US version will match the Euro specs or Japanese specs.

Uh, why do you say that? The US version is being brought over with the Mazdaspeed Emblem, which is all about performance. Hell, the US STi's spec breaks the JDM/EDM STi with the 2.5L engine and 300hp. The article essentially implies that the same car will be sold in all markets, just under different names in each region.

I hope it is as good. I dont think they would weaken that car cause it would be weak with out anymore HP. I would definately roll in that!

Because it has happened before. I hope it doesn't but it has happened to other cars in the past.

Hopefully this means more competition in the WRC as well. Still, Id have rather seen a TWO door rotary coupe in the form of an RX-7 right around 2500 lbs (supposedly in developement).

You won't see a Mazda6speed on WRC any time in the near future. We talked about this when the first spy shots back in May came out for the Mazda6speed. Ford owns Mazda, Ford competes in WRC, therefore no go for Mazda :(

The extra .5 litre of displacement on the us sti is just to make the car seem better. The 2.0 litre sti's and 22b (i think thats what it's called) have always made 300hp and up. American Sti is no better than the others.

This will probably come to the states seeing that honda is going awd with the tsx, and the evo and wrx have been doing so well; maybe toyota will join the fray with an awd corolla or celica.

It will probably cost too much. Still a cool idea, like the looks of the 6.

This isnt a repost because this is actually ocnfirmed now and it's on Mazda website now.

And whoever paid $27k for a 6 got raped.

IF you get every option sire you will pay that much. But there's no use for half of the things they offer.

It looks like for all intents and purposes, Ford will not be competing in the WRC for the 2005 season. They already had planned to not run a full season, but on top of that, they did not pick up the contract extension option for their #2 driver and rising star Francios Duval (You'd have to have seen Rallye Deutcheland to see how good this kid was). Now there's word that their #1 driver Markko Martin will be teaming up with Marcus Gronholm and the Pugeot team next year.

With that being said, I don't see why Ford would ####-block Mazda's entry into the WRC, especially considering that the second generation Focus is built on the Mazda3 platform. But even if Mazda did enter the WRC, you're more likely to see drivers in a Mazda3 than a Mazda6 since the smaller car would be more competitive.

of course, especially a Mazda3 Speed. The Mazda 3 2.3 is just a n/a version of the Mazda6-speed 2.3. Now, if Ford decides to back out and let Mazda have a go, would that mean Mazda would be one of the only companies that races in most forms of racing... OMG

It seems alot of companies are jumping on the awd band wagon but ,an awd car is only as good as it's differentials .

Toyota has made an awd turbo version of the celica in the past and only sold in japan and europe.

I think that Mitsubishi has to come up with a better entry into the sports car realm .

I love the evo and it's great that its a four door , I'll probably get one if my talon ever dies on me.

But then again well see what the future has in store.

the car will suck and break more than you can imagine, i work for mazda and their quality in recent years has been very dissapointing.

Aside from this response I thought the Mazdas were becoming quite the headturners recently. I put one of those 2003 Mazda Speed Proteges w/ the Greddy turbo system and sport suspension on a possible Buy list just because you could get one for pretty much 16k new. This six looks and sounds sick but if its not reliable then??? I don't know much about them and haven't even driving in one.
