I have a stock 2g bov, and it can hold the amount of pressure that i run, and when i get on it, my boost leaks out of the bov through the re-cir tube and back out the filter. any suggestions.

is it harmful to have no bov, so that the air backtracks all the way through my pipe and turbo and intercooler back out my filter? that is how i have it now, and it seems to run fine, and sounds cool, but is it harmful to have air going backwards through your turbo? please if anyone knows help me. thankx

oh my GOD, i dont want to sound like a jerk, but you are STUPID. you need to educate yourself about how turbos work and how bovs interact with them.

1) PUT the bov Back on!!!

2) The sound that "sounds cool" is compressor surge. its when the air hits the closed throttle plate, backs up and SLAMS into the 100000 rpm compressor blades. This is a sure route to bearing failure and ultimately turbo failure.

3) Cars are an expensive hobby, get a BOV, crushed 1g ones are not that expensive with an addapter plate. You will ruin your car if you don't give it what it needs.

Sheesh!

LOL, you dont have to have a bov, but im not getting into that.

original poster: you sir have to have a bov. the stock one leaks at idle, thats normal and fine. put it back on, and close the hood. forever.

Yeah you are right. Don't alot of people with turbo Grand national with autos run without bovs? just EASE off the throttle. but no, scrach that... dont get any ideas original poster.

People who run their turbos 5-6lbs don't need a BOV. Anything over that should really use one. People who run 5-6lbs should still use a BOV but those are usually tiny turbos that don't get beat on much anyways. Too much compressor surge and say good bye to your turbo. Its going to look like your grandfather's teeth when its done.

my friend has a gmc syclone and it didnt come from the factory with a bov. and it does have compressor surge, thank you general motors for designing such a "well thought out car". but taht is different for this aplication you definatly do need one.

I'd like to second the motion:

wow does that mean he's hitting max boost, since theres no vacuum with the turbo?
I once had a kid ask me the same thing and tried to tell me it would be ok since there is a wastegate. I told him have fun walking, they next day he was riding his bike

After reading that, it sounds like he just completly removed the BOV. That's like what, a 35ish MM boost leak?

so much for fixing that small bov leak, huh.

No, it means that the boost isn't getting vented when the throttle is closed, so it's causing damage to the turbo. That's it. The wastegate controls the boost level, and that kid you were talking about was partially right. I don't think he hooked the wastegate up to anything though. That would mean he ran full boost, which is bad.

he clealy is shamed so bad then to repost... i hope he learned his lesson

curious to see what kinda damage he did to his car here... damn. original poster, what exactly did you do? what kinda setup did you craft here? thanks.

i forgot that he asked, all i did was take the revent hose off and cap the hole. thats it. by the way, any suggestions of how to stop it from leaking out of my bov, or should i just by like a blitz witha revent hose.???

just go get a nice aftermarket one that DOES have the ability to be re-routed back to the intake(the blitz is not one of these by the way, it is strictly a BOV), they arent very expensive and they are frikkin awesome. Get one along with new I/C piping and you will notice a nice increase in performance. :thumb: :dsm:

hahahah!!! that is classic... with the forever at the end... OMG funny

While we're on the topic of compressor surge, what exactly does it sound like? :D

ROFL!!!!! Damn this thread cracks me up.... ok enough fun for me
I couldn't really hear compressor surge but I still have it under part throttle with my greddy type S, the car will buck rapidly and u will hear the bov going off, -> meaning -> your BOV is too tight. and guitar freek since you have a 1g bov [ not ajustable] , i doubt you are surging.

At least you didn't drive it like that for any extended period of time. You should still check your shaft play and see if you have any major shaft play.
