As i went to retighten my greddy egt probe, the whole thing just stripped out the hole in the manifold. this pisses me off, but all i can think to do is drill out the hole and thread for 1/4npt then put a brass 1/4 x 1/8 npt bushing in and then the sendor mount. Im worryed that the extreme heat in this area will cause problems to the brass. Do they sell steal bushings like this? Any thoughts?

Brass has a melting point of 1650. I would say youre fine with that idea; your EGT's shoudnt be that high at WOT. If it makes you sleep better at night, you could use a brass fitting in there and not beat on it so your EGT's dont climb. Meanwhile, order a steel fitting the exact same size online.

Edit: my local homedepots sell steel fittings an isle over from the brass fittings in the black iron pipe section. There's not nearly as many fittings as brass, but you might luck out.

go to a local muffler shop and get them to weld the mount in there.

I don't know if I would trust my local muffler shops welding to cast. As far as brass .. I'm using it on mine and I notice that although it was screwed in very tight when I installed it, after driving the car a few times it's very loose in there and easy to wiggle around. It doesn't back itself out or anything so I'm not too worried about it.

Just don't mess with it after just driving. I took my brass fitting and tried screwing it in farther the first day I had it installed because it was loose after the first drive it the brass fitting just snapped without me really putting any force on it.

yeah no welding on cast, i guess ill have to use the brass thing, do you guys know of any online places to get steel fittings like that, i searched around but could sorce any.

on rare ocatisons teh car will see high egts around 800 so that is...

800 degree Celsius = 1472 degree Fahrenheit

so i should be fine, for now anyway

You could drill it out and tap it for a heli-coil insert, but I'm not sure if there would be one for pipe thread. If there is I think it would be more durable then brass.

yeah, that is a great idea, i had the same one, but blasted heli-coil dosnt make it. that realy would solve this problem, the best way i think

i had my autometer one welded in with success if it means anything to you.

You can weld to cast, but it's a LOT tougher than exhaust piping and what not. You have to go to someone that really knows what they are doing if you don't want it to crack.

i heard that yo have to like preheat the whole thing to around 300 then weld, whatever, im not gonna bother with that, im glad there has been some positive feedback on brass.

i just tacked it like 10 times and its been holding fine for over a year.

I am about to install a used Autometer EGT kit, and because I did not get the fitting, I was going to do the sleve collar + ceramic washer + weld install. Do you have to have the 1/8 npt fitting for this install too?

What does the ceramic washer do?
