So....today I was going to install my fuel pump on my 2g. I purchased the car used from nebraska....so rust has always been a problem with this car. The fuel line was not too bad, but had some slight rust to it. I sprayed it down with PB blaster land let it sit over night and it seems like it ate away the rust. So today when attempting to take the line apart it was hard as a MOFO. I used pipe wrenches on both ends, but ended up stripping the 14mm side which is supposed to come lose.

Now i'm screwed. Anyone had this problem....is so what did you do? A friend said what about just cutting the line and using some fuel/heater vaccum line to hold it together. Would that work? I would think it would leak. What do you guys recommened.

I would use vise grips and use a gorilla grip to grip the stripped nut. Take it off, throw out the line and go to a hydraulic store a nd get them to make me up a new, thicker line.

You can't use a gator grip on it. The lines look like this

I already tried vise grips that only made things worse.

but ended up stripping the 14mm side which is supposed to come lose.

from what i remember, the 14mm side isnt supposed to come loose, rather the 19mm (pretty sure its 19) was suppose to.

i would suggest bailing and trying to get the line off from the bottom. bottom is really the safest way to do it without risking breaking the line of the fuel pump assymbly. you'll have to jack the car up and get under there. access to it isnt great, but you can do it from there. once the line is cracked loose from down there, be prepared for a #$% ton of fuel to come out.

if you do decide to do it from the top (i personally wouldnt anymore), the metal line on the assymbly may crack. if that happens, youre kinda in a bind. first time i did mine, that happened and i fixed it with a compression fitting. maybe not the best fix, but it did work and has for the past year.

keep us updated, good luck.

there are 2 spots you can take a 2g fuel pump out at

one is right off the pump housing under the back seat

2 is a lot easier, its under the car. make sure you use flare wrenches.

have you messed both up?

I was originally trying to do it from the bottom location. This is the 14mm which does come lose from the 19mm. The 14 is the one that is stripped. I used vise grips a couple times, but didn't seem to help any... may have made it worse. Its as if the threads rusted together. Been spraying it down with PB blaster also.

I was gonna try to attack the job from the top location....but now i'm in a bind up there also. I had already taken the top apart(dumb idea, should have made sure i could break the line apart) Now I can't get the top part seated correctly because of that dang black gasket, this is on a gsx. So I can't really get to try to losen from the top, because the top part of assembly moves around..... it just doesn't get any better

alright....I just went and attacked the bottom fitting with the vise grips some more. It still didn't budge for sh!t. The fitting is even more f'ed up now though. Would it be ok to cut the line and put a piece of rubber fuel line in between there?

Rubber fuel line will work, but the safest fix would be to replace that whole line with metal piping. I've had problems with Ethanol-based petrols eating away the rubber and reducing the lifespan of the hosing, resulting in a near fire in the engine bay. This was with Napa rubber fuel line, which I would not recommend. Rubber will hold your fuel pressure without a problem.

THANK YOU very much!!! That was what I was looking for, just some assurance that it would be fine to cut, if i had to resort to it. Luckily I pulled out some better vise grips and was able to finally BREAK that dang line apart.

THANKS
