Five point harness

does any one know if a Five point harness is legal to have on a daily driver in california.

A lot of states allow the install of harness systems as long as the factory seatbelt assembly is left installed. Basically all you have to do is leave your seat belts in but not use them.

5 point harness (all that I know of anyway) are not DOT approved. This means that they don't count on the street despite the fact that they are much much safer.

IE A cop could ticket you for not wearing a seatbelt, even if you have a harness.

I've been pulled over and been through traffic stops and I have 4 point harnesses with seatbelts taken out. I have never had anyone say anything about it. I've encountered everything from city police to state troopers. Then again, it is North Carolina.

My point exactly.

It's like the TEIN instructions which say "These suspension components are designed for off-road use. NOT FOR USE ON PUBLIC ROADS."

Then again, it's not.

This is how Cali laws are and i am not messing around either. If it makes your car faster, more aerodynamic, coooler, safer or even lower it is probably illegal. You can get a cop all over your ass for almost anything. you know why? Because your driving an import car and those dumb ass ricers that thought they learned how to drive fast after watching the F&F movies funked it all up for us. Seriously, did you ever get pulled over for having a loud exhaust before they came out with that movie? Probably not. Its the retards that keep killing themselves/others in street races, driving there car in high RPM's late at night in residential/old people areas/ and the peel outs at stop signs that get us the trouble. If i had a 60 somthing mustang/camero and freaking cut the exhaust pipes at the header, freakin full blown racing motor and roll cage and what not even a I HATE COPS sticker in my rear window, i would not be harassed ever, maybe pulled over and told i have a cool car and that my sticker is funny. Seriously Cali is so dumb and pissing me off right now. I want to move soon....Sorry for the rant, and thread whoring, just a vent and please get on with the rest of the thread.

I know they are illegal in michigan, ive been planning to do it anyhow, and ill leave the old system in jsut because its less pain. and if a cop ever says anything ill just throw the old seat belt on i guess?

I cant imagine why they arent legal as they are so much safer :/

bigglesworth. i have documented this situation too.

we were going to the illegal races(tracy), i was in my tbird(V8, exhasut, intake, blue bulbs) and my freind was in his integra(no plates, tint, blue bulbs too). we were almost ther but not quite, and he gets pulled over, the cop cut me off(i was behind him) and pulled him over. they got him for tint, plates and bulbs. i parked behind the cop so i could wait for my freind(cop had no idea where we were going, we werent even close yet), so the cop comes over to me. "nice car, youre not going to the races are you?", me, i dont lie to cops "i was going to go watch some rice get spanked", "ah, were you gonna do the spanking?" asks the cop. "nah, not in this thing, maybe if i had youre cruiser". the cop completely let me off. yet he rapes my freind.

why?

cause he was in an import. even though it had a totally stock exterior, he labeled him. he labeled me as a "domestic" guy, cause i had a V8. he even commented on my nice exhaust(he had me start it so he could hear it, wanted to see if it was better than his old tbird).

cali sucks. i want out of this emissions and regulations hellhole, so i can run no cat and open dump tube, so i can have nice intercooler piping and bov and not have it labeled as "illegal intake modification", even though its BETTER than the factory parts, and prolly helps the emissions better than that restrictive shat. im gonna move to montana or oregon or something. or maybe arizona. yeah, arizona. that sounds nice. fk cali.

yea i wouldnt move to oregon, i have lived here my whole life and i still hate the freekin rain, and the cops are probly more g@y then the ones in cali, i go down to salem (2nd biggest town in oregon (kinda.. i guess) ) to spank a couple civics on friday and saturdays and normally the cops out number the racers.. no where to park and not alot of safe/good places to race. so yea, arizona is cool.

I've been pulled over more times than I care to remember and no cop has ever gave me so much as a warning about my 5pt harnesses. Actually about half of them start asking me about where I race the car, how fast it is, etc...
Just don't be a sarcastic a*shole to the cop and I doubt you'll ever get any crap for it.

I agree. It took me 3 months to get my car to smog.

cops out here are either big a-holes or really nice. the rain is fine as long as you have a gsx

Take it to woodburn or pir, someplace that actually has good drivers....its not that expensive.
