I am having some issues here. I decieded that I have gone through my break in period with the new turbo and everything so I figured I would hook up my boost controller now. I had it going from the intake to a t-fitting, one line going to the BOV and the other going directly to the wastegate. It was giving me 8lbs of boost.

I have tried every which way of hooking it up but my boost controller won't give me any more than the 8lbs. WTF!! I tried threading it down, up, hooked up the boost lines every way I could still no change. Only 8lbs.

In the instructions it says use the nipple off the pressure side of the turbo, but my turbo/jpipe doesn't have a nipple. So I have it on a t-fitting with the BOV. Any help to get me some more boost would be great. Could I have a bad boost controller?

I really can't figure this one out. I don't know what the issue is. I can not get more than the stock 8lbs of boost off my Evo3 16g.

I tried a new boost controller set at 16psi, still no change on my car.
I tried tapping the IC piping closer to the turbo and putting a vac line straight to the BC and the other line straight to the wastegate actuator. Still no change

I did a full leak check for boost leaks, nothing. Why can't I get more than 8lbs? Could it be something to do with my actuator? Internal wastegate?

Any ideas would be helpfull

Thanks

Follow The Instructions With Your Boost Controler. Make Sure You Are Using The Correct Diagram For Your Setup.

Yeah, not that simple... :thumbdown

bottom line going to wastegate, and input going to compression side of turbo... got that part.

Its not in the BC cuz I swapped those out. And its not a issue of pressure (vac vs boost) from my IC piping.

anything else?

Unhook the boost contrller and just try to make boost if you don't make mad boost (you should spike to 30 spi so watch it and get out of the gas right away if you don't spike right up there Im 99.9% sure that your wg is leaking or stuck open check that first. I had the exact same prob.

With no BC hooked up I get 8-9lbs. With BC hooked up I still get 8-9lbs.

I checked the flapper on the turbo, and it moves how do I check my actuator? So your saying with out my BC hooked up, just the Evo3 16g, with a vac line teed into the BOV should creep to 30?

This probably isn't it, but the boost source always goes in the whole opposite to the screw. The other whole out the side is the signal to the WG.

So I put the car up on the lift today to see what was up. The actuator arm doesn't move very easy at all. Its stuck part way open. This is a brand new turbo and I don't know why the actuator would be stuck, but I disconnected from the flapper and the flapper moves freely. So I am going to order a new actuator and see if this fixes the prob.

Thanks for the help guys, and I will keep you posted.

It WILL fix the problem. Don't you worry but remember to back teh MBC off if you have it wound it cuz its gonna make mad boost if you forget! If that WG flapper is open even a little it won't make boost I had the same prob. If you take it on the hwy and run it hard will it make boost the higher you rev it? If not then its really stuck open. :thumbdown

Thanks for the input Bigjoe but its the actuator. I am getting a new one sent to me. I compared the actuator to one that was on my buddies 16g and it looks like mine is crushed, which changes the diaphram/spring ratio. So I got a new one on the way and pretty sure it will fix the prob.

Thanks :thumb:

Damn wish I knew you were ordering one! I have a forced performance 17 psi accuator I would let go cheap!

Well considering my turbo is still brand new, and I have NEVER been able to get more than 8psi out of it, they are covering it and send me a new one. They believe that it was crushed in shipment.

In answer to your question, no matter what I do I can't get more than 8psi. I took the vac line off the wastegate actuator, I plugged the line, I tried two different BC's, and even tapped a closer nipple on the IC pipe to see if maybe my BOV was taking to much vac off the intake line.

I put a pair of pliers on the wastegate actuator and it does not move. Its stuck. So I am sure thats the prob.

DSMPARTS.COM I have bought more than $5,000 worth of parts from them. Their service has been awsome, prices have met or beat anyone out there, and shipping is fast! I have been very satisfied with them, except for one detail that they missed when shipping me my Evo3 O2 housing...

I called them told them my prob(which has been a couple weeks of troublshooting), and they knew exactly what to do. My actuator was probably crushed in transit by UPS, and they are going to take care of it. Again awsome service. I will keep you posted once my new actuator gets here.

So got my new Actuator from DSMPARTS.COM They overnighted me my new actuator and I installed it on my car. IF ANYONE OUT THERE is looking for good parts and great service, give Chris or Drew a call at DSMPARTS...

I tried to go for a run, but the car is running really bad. I only went around the block, and I got it to spike at 14psi (so probably just need to adjust my new boostcontroller), but now the car sputters and backfires. My old wastegate actuator was deff. messed up. It wouldn't move when I took it off the car, and it is stuck part way open. The new actuator fixed the boost prob, but now I have to figure out why the car isn't running healthy....

If its not one thing or another.

I will post after I do some trouble shooting. I am in the process of doing the fuel pump rewire, boost leak check, and check spark...

If it still sputters, and backfires after that I will ask for some help.

Thanks everyone

New actuator is on, MAF is dialed in again, and I went for a run. Also installed a new duel stage boost controller. Went for a couple runs and instead of getting 8lbs I get 10 but no more. Flip the switch nothing. Power is good, I can hear the BC switching. Actuator is brand new, and it moves....

IC leaks maybe? Turbo? Can a actuator not let the turbo make any more than 10psi? I would thinkt that an Evo3 16g would make more than 10psi.

Again tried unhooking the wastegate actuator, nothing, hooking it up in every configuration, nothing. I went from only being able to make 8 to only being able to make 10. This is really frustrating.

Where do I look next?

I think I am going to change my sig to love them, hate them and really hate them, and never want to own one again....maybe I should just go back to v8's.

Is the WG accuator adjustable? When the car is cool try to move the WG by hand and see if there is spring tension trying to fight you and hold it closed. If there is then the WG should be fine.
Is your car smoking at all? Just wondering if you have a valve problem limiting boost. I would make a leak tester and make sure to use a compressor with a regulator to around 18psi - 20 psi and leak test your car you may be surprised! I would guess if nothing else either your boost gauge is mangled or your car has a serious leak. How does it run with the 10 psi is it stong? When you hook up the leak tester you may be able to see the pressure you are piping in on your boost gauge to check its accuracy.
