i am in the middle of a project 6 bolt swa, front mount, custom piping and custom 3" exhuast, now my ? is should i spend 250 and get an evo front mount, or a starion front mount for 120 and spend te extra 100$ and get a fuel pump too???

if you don't even have a fuel pump you don't need a fmic. Besides ... both those intercoolers suck. Get the other mods first and then save up for a nice intercooler.

Well the guy working on my car is doing custom IC piping, so I'll use a starion FMIC for now but do you guys have any idea what FMIC would be best? I'd like to get just the intercooler, I dont need all the other piping.

The original poster was asking about turboing his car. He has a NT Spyder therefore his motor is the SOHC 4g64. IAMCLP1 was suggesting that he get the Hahn turbo kit if he wanted to turbo his car assuming he had a 420A like coupe NT's do. This had nothing to do with the HRC FMIC kit which is a very nice piece.

I think intercooler questions like "which one is the best" should be treated like the turbo related question. There really is no right or wrong answer. Some intercooler are very effective at cooling charge air and have minimal pressure loss but block radiators and require cooling system upgrades. Some intercoolers are super effective at droppoing temps but do not flow well and drop pressure. Some intercoolers have different flow rates. Some require more modification of the front bumper and could be a safety issue to someone that has an issue with extensive modification of the bumper support. PLEASE BE MORE SPECIFIC WITH THE GOALS OF YOUR CAR!!!:dsm:

it was a simple ? of should i get the starion intercooler for 120.. or an evo intercooler for 250, which one is better? not what i should get. i know what i should get but i dont have the money for that, so.. is an evo intercooler that much better then a starion front mount, or should i just get the starion front mount and use the rest of the money on a fuel pump and bov? since mine was recently stolen, or maybe the better ? would be what would be the best intercooler i can get for 250$ price range???? for a 14b set up, custom intercooler pipes, 3" exhaust, lookin for 12's, before i upgrade to a big 16g, also what intercooler will work good w/ both the 14b and 16g, thanx guys

I guess the Evo IC would be the lesser of two evils. The Evo can handle about 350 to the wheels before it becomes useless. For a 14b setup this should be enough untill you wanted to go bigger. The only problem I can see is the piping. Get a 1g bypass valve and save yourself some money without sacrificing any performance. A fuel pump, 550cc injectors and an AFC are recomended to run with a 14b because I was hitting fuel cut nasty style at 15psi when I had a 14b.

A friend of mine had offered to sell me his Starion FMIC (it's in very good shape) and before I bought it I was just wondering if they flow well on 4G63's. Of course I will have custom piping made from a local shop in town.

Ive heard bad things about them like there not much if any better then the stock one, might as well just save up for a decent one or something. However im not sure about this its just what ive seen on this site.

It will take some custom work to get results.
I run 2" piping from the turbo and 2.5" piping out to intake using the shortest route
which is by the radiator. You need to also have larger in and outs installed on the intercooler.
The intercooler is much better than the stock if you do this. I run one on a big16g..the outlet is always cool and I've run [email protected]k motor, full interior..so it will work if modded right.
Weigh your modded costs plus cost of intercooler against a premade kit to see worth of this project. I ended up with $375 in total cost which is a great bang for the buck.

Starion FMIC are they shitty ?? I think i remember hearing that they where?? What should i go with Greddy, hks, Apexi, adfx Let me know because someone wants to trade me a starion for some parts. Thanks guys

it would be wiser to get a fmic from ebay. They are running cheaper and cheaper. The gains would not be worth getting the starion. If fmics were way more than you would consider it but there cheap. Just search for fmic on ebay.

Do not get ADFX. I ordered my intercooler from them a few weeks ago and all they have done is bullshit me about putting it in the mail, sending it to the wrong person, telling me it's been overnighted, basically just lying to me. They don't answer the phone and if you do miraculously get them to pick it up every time you ask for a tracking number they say,"the shipping guy isn't here", then when you get ahold of a shipping guy he says,"the shipping guy isn't here." Everyone is the shipping guy but nobody is the shipping guy. They don't return calls and they take your money up front. I would insert a thumbs down smilie here but my disgust for them goes far beyond that which the smilie can convey.

I would like to know if any of you guys have experience on the sterion intercooler how good is it and is it worth it getting one for a 20g.

I had one, I never did install it though. From what I understand they are not much better than the stock SMIC, they do have their added benefits- moved from stock SM location to front mount (more airflow) but the work that it takes to change the inlet and outlet (they are only 1 3/4" stock) and make the intercooler work is not practical for any non-stock turbo application. The intercooler itself flows (from what I can remember - don't quote me) something along the lines of 400 cfm and heat sinks really fast. Also you are putting something on your car that is from the late 80's and can be heavily oxidized on the inside and could have hidden boost leaks. My advice would be to skip the intercooler, the time and money it takes to retrofit it isn't worth the gains, if any. Like I said, I made the mistake and bought mine first and did the research later, after reading and searching a lot on this forum I immediately sold it.

Worst 50.00 bucks I ever spent! Buy JR's FMIC 650.00 for a complete kit 7" 660cfm or 850.00 complete kit 10" 980cfm includes all piping, flange for BOV, rubber (not the cheap crap either) and clamps (again not cheap crap) He has sent mme pics of this kit if you would like.

Theres A turbo Starion at my local junkyard and I was wondering if there is anything other than the FMIC worth taking off the car that would be an upgrade for my turbo 1g.
