They already have :(, i can't find an ae86 anywhere (tried looking) and everyone wants an arm and a leg for a good 240sx "because you can put one of those cool japanese motors in it). Hopefully no one makes a sport out of understeer/torque steer

I hate drifting. It needs to go back to Japan, with stupid JDM style. It's not even motorsports, it might as well be figure skating because thats about the closest thing I can say it resembles.

Yeah but those cars are still great with or without it, i see what you are saying but those cars would still be fun on a track.

I think drifting is interesting, but I agree with dsmjim with it having to go back to Japan. A few years back very few people over here knew about it, and I think it should've been kept that way. Even though I knew what drifting was and watched all the best of motoring videos since I was 14 years old.... I never considered getting into it, and I don't consider getting into it in the future. Problem with drifting over here is that it attracts the wrong people.... wreckless unexperienced highschool kids. From the way things look it looks like it's here to stay unfortunately.

why do you people want AE86s anyway, it's a piece of shit corolla that barely has enough power to get out of it's own way. and they are ugly and old, and most are in terrible condition.

180sx is a pos as well, dunno why you'd want that

240s are ok though, fun cars.

Exactly, I dont' like drifting or 180's or AE86's the only cool thing I've ever seen drift is that kid on the tricycle from that old commercial. :D

Drifting is old as hell, older than my pop's. It's just that noone called it drifting and it wasn't a sport. I remember icey roads and dirt roads being my playground with any kind of RWD. Comeon Someone here older than 18 please chime in on this. :thumb:

240 is ok but a 180 isn't? ....

They're the same car, well sort of. 240 is the american version of the 180sx with the 2.4l non turbo, 140-150hp. 180sx, 2 liter turbo with around 200 hp. *SR20DET*
Both are same body style, one is better than the other, and it is not the americanized 240.

Well if you guys dont like the cars or drifting thats fine by me.

That means more fun for the rest of us. Formula Drift has been around for a short while now, since the begining of this year. I do hope they dont make drifting what it isnt like Americans sometimes like to do.

Just say no to Drift ricers.

Why not just drift with a camaro or mustang....

Drifting is cool, but it has become a big fad now. It is taking over the import scene. All the magazines are filled with 2/3 of the content being dedicated to drifting. And the majority of the followers can't do it anyway. WTF!? I have noticed the price of certain cars go up tho b/c "u can drop a cool JDM motor in it." The JDM and drift craze needs to blow over so magazines can actually have something new in them and people can stop acting like idiots.
Some kid here just bought an R33 GTR skyline. He's like 17. His father passed away, etc. He got like $300k. Well, he almost hit my mom head on, trying to drift off of a main road. He rear ended a van and last I heard, totalled the car. Within 2 weeks of driving it. All of this because he saw something new and "cool" and wanted to try it. I hope he gets his car fixed and it really isn't totalled, but I haven't seen it around in months now. It just pisses me off that people jump on the bandwagon to whatever gets printed in Super Street, then completely disrespect a rare car that many of us would love to have.

Ok chevy nova II with a LS4 v8 in it.....

If it means anything the guy that one the last D1 competition in Atlanta won with a Dodge Viper.

It's just a different type of motorsport and people are entitled to opinions, i like most of the cars involved because i just have since i was a kid, hell i've been looking at datsuns and getting laughed at by friends who dont have the same tastes as me because they are slow but *shrug*, not everyone can afford a 5.0 or get an sti.

I like drifting because it shows control, and anything with tires screeching and loud cars is just fun to watch. Doing it on public roads when there are other people on it however are just stupid. It's just like street racing, drag racing gets a bad rep to the adults around here because so many idiots go doing it on public roads and get hurt or damage property. Id much rather watch cars on a track compete than see them get judged for points on how well they drift. However drifting is cool because it shows skill, furthermore the cars are obviously tuned with skill and manufactured equally as well if they are able to do what they do.

I think the same way about 1/4 mile drag. Redneck hillbilly garbage should stay in backwoods Hickville, USA for all I'd care. You can take NASCAR with you. The worst thing about these types of racing is the trash that comes to watch it. My hometown in Daytona Beach, and the one thing I hated was NASCAR season when all the mobile trailer trash rolls into town and clogs up the streets. :barf:

At least drifting is fun to watch when it's done by a professional team. I've seen one here in Japan where 3 drivers stayed side by side, drifting in unison throughout the turns which required quite a bit of skill. And it lasted for more than a nutshot of 12 seconds.

i cant drift and id be afraid to try but to be honest a car going completely sideways at a 140mph and remaining completely in control is pretty fricken spetacular. Dont diss driftin especially the ones who race/drift i think it requires more skill than any other driving besides rallying. Its fun to watch and its pure insanity. i like 1/4 mile race and i love street cars doin it...but driftin does look like a lot more fun.

Now that was a crazy a55 reply..LOL.

Im from hawaii so drifting was big here before the states. I have no problem with any type of motorsports or drifting. Something i've lived by : Dont hate if you spectate. take it as you will.

I'd say give it 10 years. Its the rough stage in the US. Hopefully the trend will die and what will emerge is some good drivers.

Just keep in mind (I know some of the top drifters in hawaii) they aren't all idiots. Some are actually level headed and only do it on the track.

www.driftsession.com <thats when they go practice.

Blah. anyway pz to everyone. on a side note I finished my low mileage motor swap. I love DSMs (until something goes wrong..haha)

do you live in japan?

here in america a 240 is not the same car as a 180.

but if you want to pretend to be japanese (since that is the latest fad now isn't it?), i'll have to correct you there too... their 180 is what we have as a 240 hatch and the silvia is what he have as the 240 coupe

go back to reading super street instead of showing your ignorance on here please.

thanks

Just make sure your relatives pick up after themselves when they leave town after the races. You'd think you all were raised on a farm or something. By animals.

even f.o.b japan, the prices of used sports cars are usuaLLY LOW;but after the car has been passed thru 2 or three dealers on theirway to their destination, the prices explode!

eg: i recently saw a 91Mazda Cosmos JC 13b selling for 19000Euros(thats almost 24000$) :thumbdown

now these carts cost F.O.B ex japan about 3-5k euros(in excellent condition)

the mark up on a rx7 is less though...being 5-12 k ex ###. fo´r a 98 a-spec ,ending up being about 20k when they get here..
