Im not sure which 16G to get. I have no fuel mods whatsoever, so I guess the small 16G would be best. If I was to get the big 16G or EVO turbo, would I be better off? Could I get away with a larger fuel pump and rewiring and keep the boost down to 16psi? I can't afford the injectors right now and the safc. I have a Fwd, so traction is not great even with the t25! What Im asking is do you guys think I should go bigger than the small one, that way I won't be kicking myself in the butt?

i would go w/ a big 16g , the small 16 is not a bolt on, the big 16 is and u don't need to upgrade injectors ect, u wont get the true HP of the turbo though

You could run almost 300HP at the crank on stock injectors with a larger pump.

Get the EVOIII16G. They're cheap and awesome.

Huh?? The small 16G isn't a bolt on? WTF?

I have a small 16g with supporting mods, but no fuel support, i dont go past 15 psi, its a very strong turbo through all rpms

All Mitsubishi Turbo's are bolt on for 1g DSM's

2g DSMs need an install kit because they used a Garrett turbo stock...slightly different setup.

Between a small 16g and big 16g and evolution III 16g, i'd got with the evo3.

between the small and big 16g, id go with the small. not big enough difference to warrant the extra cost.

Thanks guys! Im probably gonna order the EVO today from dsmparts.com, they're only like $75 higher than the small 16G, and the Large 16G is more than the EVO! My t25 is nearly dead. Time for some wheel hoppin, fuel cut, tire spinning fun!! :D I appreciate the info.

I have one more question. Does the small 16g spool up faster and at a lower rpm than the evo? Which would be better on the street? I know If I dont get the biggest and the best I will be regretting it! Its only $75 more.

Not enough spoolup difference for it to matter. From the numbers guys have been reporting for the EVO 16G, it looks like a great turbo to get. I only got a regular Big 16G because it was dirt cheap used.

To psychlow: read what i wrote VERY carefully, i said this

read what you put, you are so far from right its not funny. If you dont know or dont have first hand knowlege dont reply. A 14b, small 16g and big 16g are the same turbo just different interals. They are all td05h turbos. They all bolt up just on a 2g you need to bend your waterlines and get a new feed and return line for oil and also a Jpipe. Thats it.

Back on topic. Go with the evo 16g, just dont crank the boost up till you have the things to support it. Will be a better turbo down the road.

For a 2g neither are bolt-ons.

I went with the Evo 3 16G and I would recommend the same, my only worry is, and maybe someone here could answer it, what PSI the wastegate actuator is set to. I mean Tnj4life wants to run 16psi boost, but for some reason I thought that the Evo's wastegate actuator was set to 17psi. Can someone answer this question?

wow u were are amazing thats what i sayed a small 16 WILL NOT BOLT ON, yes i was wrong about the big 16 but the small wont on a 2g, i want talking about 1g,ok

Why not get it from buschurracing.com?? They sell the evoIII for 535.00 + shipping!

Man, I wish you would have told me that sooner! I bought it for $575! Thanks though. And thanks to all that have helped me with my decision. My t25 is on the verge of falling apart.

You know, every one thinks this, even I thought this. When I got this turbo (EVO III 16G) I had the expectation of it being able to hold 17 psi so I disconnected my MBC. Before I installed the turbo, I took the T-25's boost source nipple and harvested it on the compressor housing of the EVO. I than hooked a hose direct from boost source on the compressor housing of the EVO III 16G (I custom made) to the wastegate actuator. Went drove around for a week running no boost to ensure all was well with my install. Than the first weekend came and I went to my car all hiped up ready to see what this new turbo can do. I get on the freeway and nail it WOT, with one eye on the boost gauge and the other on the road, I see the needle fly past all the digits and stop at 10 OMG I was a little disapointed :( with that and went home and hooked my MBC to 15 psi. Spoolup is crazy fast as well. :thumb: That is a myth as far as I'm concerned. Its a 10psi wastegate actuator. I got mine from FP.

can that threaded hole be left open as is?
Yes. There are two on the compressor housing exit. One is used to bolt the water line to in its original application. You can bolt the stock T-25 line to it after bending it. I didn't bolt the line on. I didn't want to bend it that much. And the other screw hole I don't know what its used for. So its just there which is why I used it to harvest my boost source.

So I am guessing everyone got there boost creep problems solved. It was a long topic talked about on here. It seemed like every other thread was about the EVO's creeping problem.

Hope you enjoy the new power that you find. Just get the correct support for that thing and you will have a much better time with it. :thumb:

The overall consensus of what causes boost creep with the Evo 3 turbo is the step in the collector of the stock manifold. What I mean is the inset that holds the sleeve (a.k.a. gasket saver) between the t-25 and the exhaust manifold. The step will divert exhaust gasses away from the wastegate passage and into the turbine. If you get the turbo ported, as many people do, this step is useless because the sleeve can't be used with the Evo turbo and therefore can be ground away. This allows the exhaust gasses an uninterrupted path to the wastegate passage once the flapper opens. There might be other contributing problems but it seems as though this was the major source.
