In just about all of the VFAQ's I've looked at regarding clutch changes and/or flywheel removals, they mention buying or making a special tool to hold the flywheel steady while loosening the bolts that hold it to the crank.
I just recently changed trannies (1993 AWD) on my car and noticed that in the crank SNOUT, there is a 1/2" recessed hole that fits a 1/2" drive breaker bar perfectly. Just put the breaker bar in the crank snout hole, wedge it against the ground or sturdy body part, and you can loosen the flywheel bolts with no turning of the crank at all - no special tool is needed.
I'm sure many of you know this, but for those of you that don't, I thought I'd pass it on...
