Ok.. i bought a 1992 eclipse gs as a parts car. it had a shortblock in it, so i pulled the motor and tranny. What i was wondering is if the 4g63 shortblock and tranny from a 1G non turbo car is the same as a turbo car?

See if you can change the title of your thread to

1G engine configuration

That will get you some good responses. I wish I could help you out, but I am limited in the 1g area.

Good Luck! :thumb:

No, the bare blocks are basicly the same configuration, but the turbo block has oil injectors in the bottm to spray and cool the pistons. The trannies are different gear ratios and the turbo has larger internals and a heavier housing to handle the torque and power increase.

The blocks are basically the same, but there is no hole for the knock sensor (has to be tapped and relocated). Like what was said above, there are no oil squirters for the pistons. The compression ratio of the pistons are obviously different in the NT (1g turbo is low compression 7.8:1...not sure what the NT cars compression is)

the basic blocks are the same, the difference is the oil squirters and the pistons, but plenty of people including some big name racers use the blocks without the oil injectors anyway so no big prob there, there are plenty of people that have used the n/t block in turbo applications if that answers your questions...... :dsm:

There is already a hole tapped for the knock sensor. If you are just using the block then you will be fine if you rebuild it with turbo pistons and rods. You don't need to have oil squirters, lots of people weld those shut. You can also run the non turbo parts inside the block but you would have to keep your boost down to under 7 psi.

Thanks for the responses!! it has helped out immensely!

the reason i ask is that i have someone who is interested in buying my 4g63 shortblock for their turbo project. They wanted to know if they could use the block the same as they could use a 4g63T.
