Try some non-projected spark plugs gapped at .24. You could be getting spark blowout at higher boost levels. Your AFR's should be around 10.3-10.8 at WOT running only 91 octane.
Also, if the car has a lot of mileage, change out the tensioner pulley arm, as they can get worn out too. Mine had about an 1/8 inch divot in it where the tensioner made contact, making the timing belt extra loose even with a new auto tensioner.

I prefer to not have hot oil inside the cabin of the car if anything ever fails ( which it will at some point in time), just my opinion. I run my sending unit (electric gauge) from the spot where the allen bolt is in your pic.
If you're doing the timing belt, might as well replace the balance shaft belt as well. If the balance shaft belt breaks, you're going to have all sorts of problems. Hence why people do the balance shaft elimination kits.
How does the scirocco rad sit in the engine bay compared to your thermostat housing? If it sits higher than the thermostat housing, you'll never be able to bleed all of the air out of the system.
