Hank Hill
I was raised around/ working on cars and motorcyles. Have a big brother Ive always looked up to that has been into various performance cars and mechanical work for as long as I can remember. So eventually, Went to tech school for automotive technology while working as a lube tech for a local Hyundai dealer. Finished class with very good grades and got bumped up to a 2nd year apprentice, put in 2 years till I reached journeyman (although I was doing pretty much the exact same things during my time as an apprentice). Spent roughly a year and a half to two years there as a journeyman, decided I didn't really want to do the whole dealership thing for the next 30+ years so I found a job with a large local public transit agency starting off making more than I would have at the dealer 4 years down the road and less headache. Since I've been there, only about 1.5yr so far (12/21), I've worked on servicing and repairing Gillig busses and Siemens light rail vehicles.
Around 2012/2013, (think I was 17-18 at the time) I owned a '97 eclipse gs (nicknamed the awkward turtle by a friend of my brothers), liked the styling and it was kind of fun to drive, but i did not really like the non turbo format & auto transmission (didn't like to go very fast up a slight incline with the AC on lol).
Fast forward to 2018, thought I wanted to get out of riding street bikes, so I started to look for a fun (somewhat safer) alternative that I could drive and build at the same time. I remembered i did somewhat like the eclipse I previously had, but that it was lacking in the 'fun' aspect. Didn't really want too big of a car (had an 84 iroc for a little while), and wanted something that was already fun to drive but could be improved upon relatively cheaply. So I found my '97 spyder GST! Seemed to be fun, sporty etc. I do kind of regret not waiting for one that wasn't so poorly modified, but don't necessarily hate it..most of the time lol.
My goal was/is to reach 4-500whp but appear as stock as possible. Really only plan on using it as a fun street car, not doing any kind of track racing.
