I was considering now that I'm doing a reseal of the old gal to get the stainless water pipe found here. https://ravenfab.com/products/stainless-steel-4g63-dsm-water-pipe?pr_prod_strat=collection_fallback&pr_rec_pid=5679155314855&pr_ref_pid=6218999955623&pr_seq=uniform&variant=35995629191335

when I had it on the dyno many tunes ago only at 19psi it only made 350ft lbs and I think that is where I'll turn it down to. I had it running 29 when the trans went but again it broke on a 3 to 4 NLTS after double digit years of racing so I blame myself for useless hard driving. I'm feeling...
OK.. Yeah even when I was racing I would drive it hard but not beat it. I honestly think it broke the night I decided to really whoop on the old gal and it was more user abuse then it was part failure. Lesson learned. I'll probably only do 1k miles a year from here on out for date nights, car...
Thanks that is helpful. I have an old FP 5052 so it's a bit of old tech and the torque doesn't hit so hard like todays newer turbos. How long have you had your car driving it like so?
So I have one trans with Tim already and talked to Jacks and they have a decent amount of Trans parts still available so I was thinking of getting my spare built also and just having it done in storage. I can't figure out if it's worth it or not due to the fact I've pursued autox/road racing...
So I'm doing the final restore on this old fella and as you can see the shock towers are mint. They should be as this has spent the last 20 years avoiding rain and sitting in the garage at the sign of any rough weather. Guys that have replaced sections and fixed that area up I assume they are...
OK Tim I'll get that tomorrow. I'm keeping it just because I don't want to source another and now that I've stepped back from panic mode I'm doubting anything other then the cover is damaged.Shipped from a private seller through a UPS store in Illinois and I had him place $1,000 insurance on...
So Tim could you see any potential issue with the VC not being perfectly centered when spinning? I'm not sure what makes up the guts to a Viscous Coupler and I mean in reality I can't imagine something got tweaked as it would have to get crushed to bend the shaft of the Center diff right? I only...
More transmission woes... So my backup trans came and the UPS guy dropped it accidently and was cool enough to pretty much come talk to me about it. It smashed the 5th gear cover a little and hit the Viscous Coupler. I pulled the cover and I threw a dial indicator on the VC. When I put on on...
I did the same thing and it made breaking that nut loose a breeze. It's really ghetto as I just used an old input shaft and some random scrap but it works well for sure.
Obviously I'm the one on here for advice so take it with a grain of salt but I'm pretty sure you need both.. A micrometer for measuring things like your shims and then a dial indicator for measuring shaft play. Tim has a few posts listing all the tools and so far I can attest that you need...
Honestly I'm not really sure why I lost confidence. Your right though it's no different then measuring the end play of a crank or shimming the transfer case for the jeep I just rebuilt. I have the FSM and plenty of support here.
