In 2014 I purchased a 97 GST Spyder from a dealer. The car was on the "destined for the crusher" lot. I'd been searching for a project car to build and customize. The ad on the internet said $5,000.00 for the car, so I checked it out.
It was a sad story. The car had been traded in and was sent to this last chance 2-bit lot before going to the bone yard. It had a HOST of problems, including a damaged top that wouldn't work, drywall screws holding some of the body panels on, mushrooms growing in the carpet, and blue smoke coming out near the exhaust manifold on rev.
I showed the dealer what I could see just from a walk-around. After a feeble "but the car's almost 20 years old" set of excuses, he sighed and asked how much I'd pay for it. For $1600 he delivered it to my house on a trailer.
I fixed the major issues and used it as a daily until 2019. I then put it on jackstands and tore everything out of it. Thus began the full resto, rehab, and refab.
The car will be back on the streets as a 450whp daily.
