  1. Which motor for resale pricing?

Piston rings are worn. Never spun a bearing or anything. Just low compression numbers, around 95-100 per cylinder. It still ran when the head was on itJust didn't run very well
  2. Which motor for resale pricing?

Kind of what I was thinkingI have a pretty clean, stock appearing 1991 GVR4. It has a walbro 255, FIC 950's, bastard 20g turbo, injen intake with maf and plug n play adapter, 1g vrsf front mount modified to fit, and an evo 8 ecu with plug n play harness. It also has an innovative wideband and...
  3. Which motor for resale pricing?

Well I will probably be getting out of the dsm game for a while. Just until I can afford it as a project rather then a DD.My motor needs a complete rebuilt bottom end. I have a stock rebuilt cylinder head. I am just going to buy a rebuilt one from someone here on the forums. I have found...
  4. Too much motor

Sweet! He said its been babied and will sell me thr long block for 1200 plus shipping. Is that price too good to be true? Or about right for a motor like this with 15k or so?Will/should it last as long as a completely stock rebuild?
  5. Too much motor

Going to buy a rebuilt 6 bolt motor from a guy here on the forum. He's selling a motor that was rebuilt about 15-20k ago using Wiesco 8.5:1 pistons with eagle hbeam rods, bse, l19 head studs, cometic gasket, bc springs and retainers, 3G liftersSeems like a real nice set up. I know the stock...
  6. Used shortblock condition

Well the guy said he spray painted it just because it was out, he wanted to make it look nicer? My question now is, could I do a very basic rebuild of my current block for around 800-1000? It probably does need to be bored over, there is a scratch in one of the cylinders. Might hone out but I...
  7. Used shortblock condition

Yea I guess I could be wrong about the valve marks on the top of the cylinders. Maybe it is just carbon build up that makes them less noticeable.
  8. Used shortblock condition

One thing I did notice, is the marks on the piston head for the valve clearance all look pretty deep still. As in there not real worn down like the ones on a 100k plus motor. The ones on my piston heads are worn down and not as deep of a groove anymore. Is that something to look at to consider...
  9. Used shortblock condition

I am going to look at a used shortblock, ill post some pictures of it. Just nervous because the guy said it was re built/re ringed. Im buying it because my current motor has fried rings and low compression. I just dont want to waste money on a junk shortblock when I already have one. I know i...
  10. 68hta

Is the 68hat still arguably the best street turbo for pretty decent power with not too much lag? Or has someone come out with a better "version"?
  11. engine..what would you do?

I have a couple options in front of me for my gvr4. Motor needs a rebuild, rings are gone and one ringland broke. The cylinders will have to be bored, hot tanked, decked probably align honed. Compelete rebuild kit plus time and tools. I'd have the head rebuilt. Would love to build it up tobhold...
  12. Multiple bad lifters

What would cause mulitple lifters to fail at the same time?I removed the valve cover, a few rockers have a slight amount of play. I know that would first lead you to believe that the valves are bent but timing is spot on.While looking at the valves that have play in the rockers, I can...
  13. loss in compression

Ill check mechanical timing again. My cylinder head is a brand new rebuilt, but the needle is a little jumpy at times. But it is mostly steady. I believe I just have a slight intermediate misfire at idle which is what I think causes the needke to be a little jumpy? Like I said it doesn't always...
  14. loss in compression

Yea wet compression and leakdown are on the to do list when I have time. After those numbers I didn't tgink the car would even be driveable. Like I said though it runs and drives fine. That low of compression should yield some kind of driveability issues right? Is it possible to fry the...
  15. loss in compression

Does a loss in compression always result in a loss of vacuum?I did a compression test and got some pretty nasty numbers. Car seems to run and idle great though. Also at idle, aroind 950, I am pullsing a vacuum between 16-20 in.Numbers on two cylinders were 120 and the others were 90...
