I know exactly what you're doing, I was planning on doing a lq4 427 buildup as my chevelle will be a 69 yenko clone (in a 68 body) and I too wanted to pursue the pro touring scene. However, I stopped at the build price of 22,000 for an assembledy long block.I'd recommend...
Oh I understand exactly how much power you can make with a turbo ls1. I'm just a fan of a big ole nasty cam. I also got my motor for less than 1500 with brand new parts (and my old 327 traded in). What I would do though if I was going to run a turbo without the big price tag of ls1 parts is...
Yeah, 427s are very cool, internally balanced and meant to take some rpms. Course, you want to run one with a stick, and when you do that, parts start flyin off. ROFL
Sounds good! I've got a 68 chevelle with a little 11:1 385/2004R/12 bolt 4.11 posi in it. I like my chevelle lumpy, and with solid motor mounts and a 305 adv duration cam, it is. ;)I've got the bottom end of a 454 built now, waiting to afford heads/intake and t56.
I used some cinamin in my chevelle when I ran race gas. So I took a chic for a ride in my car and did something girly to coverup the race gas. Don't laugh at me too much.
Actually no they are not. And besides, you can internally balance a 454 as well. That was not the redline, I'm just saying the torque curve is a nice flat line from 2000-4000, then it starts to fall off. It can rev to 6500, but it won't need to go over 5500.
