I personally feed from the head with over 10k on my used hx40. I have no balance shafts and pluged oil squirters and a 3/4" oil drain. My oil line from th head will fill a 12oz bottle in less than 10 sec at idle. I am not sure on the pressure but I know the volume is there. I am going to...
Yea man honestly unless your getting a new Ebay holset knock off, they look identical. I have a HX40, never been rebuilt bought it used and it has over 10k on it no problems, has absolutely no shaft play I'm pretty sure if Holset was selling unbalanced turbos that they would be out of business...
But that is not the pressure that the turbo sees. We need some sort of method of determining how much oil is enough. Maybe if someone has a truck with a turbo on it if they wanna pull a line off and use a measured container and see how long it takes to fill lets say 1cup? Doing this at idle...
Just something to add to all of this, I have my turbo fed from the head(NO BS NO OIL SQUIRTERS)(Also I get 110psi of pressure from my OFH at 7k WOT), I have a pressure sensor right on my -4 feed line. At idle with NO Pressure, I can fill a 8oz container in 15 seconds. THAT'S ZERO pressure...
Just to add to this huge debate. If you really want to run from the ofh, you could put a regulator in the line so that not only are you controlling volume you are also controlling pressure, and you can adjust. When you put a restricter on the turbo your basically making a pressure washer. To...
I belive people should not at all be even feeding a journal bearing turbo off the ofh. I understand that yea you want clean oil because it is right after the oil filter but, turbo run on cars for sometimes over 200k what makes you think your turbo is going to blow because you aren't running it...
Also something to add. If you have a backed up drain, your turbo won't just blow up, you may get some smoke because oil is going past the seals. THIS DOES NOT mean your turbo is blown. Think of the oil seal in a turbo as piston rings, they have end gaps, so oil going past it doesn't mean its...
Here are a couple rule of thumbs so we can just clarify this whole problem.-You need a good working pcv/crank case vent system for your drain to work properly.
-For a holset a -10 is plenty anythin bigger wouldnt hurt but is not needed.
-Your drain line CANNOT have any kinks at all.
-A -4...
