You may be confusing the oil cooler located on the driver's side for the tranny cooler. If you look at a stock rad( not an aluminum type) there will be nipples located under the fan shrouds and rubber hoses attached. These are the tranny cooler lines.

My early build 95 2g has a tranny cooler built into the radiator.
