The 3" exhaust pipe cut at right around 2" did the trick to replace the rotted original subframe bushing housing.

I was just there looking good. I got the toe eliminator and upper from Paul n and replaced all bushings in the front and rear frame .

Oh yeah? Awesome! I'll have to check out your build thread again.
I bet that'll make for a much tighter chassis, waaay better than the beat OE stuff that's for sure. Haha
RTM is pretty bad ass. I emailed Paul and asked about an option for the fuel guage sender and he'd said they're working on a solution right now to be able to provide one with their fuel sending unit. Gotta have a guage on a street build.

You’re seriously getting after it! Lots of similarities with work on my car, but I’ve been chipping away for 3 years and only got half as far. Had TRE do all my gears, too. Go for the bead blast on the cases, very sweet.
There is a freelancer making Stainless fuel necks, though a bit pricey. Yours looks bad.
I used a universal fuel sender, and it fits fine. I have a meter match unit that compensates for the difference in resistance between the oem and replacement units.
Does yours have 6 or 7 bolt motor? Twin piston front calipers?

Thanks, man! Haha, I want to work on it all the time but there's only so many shifts I can pull till 11 in the garage after all day working. Lol.
I'll have to check out your build thread!
Oh, sweet! Jon and company seems to have it dialed in. They've been there just over a month solid imagine they'll be getting around to them here before long. Ok, yeah, the bead blast I'm sure probably looks bad ass!

I saw the stainless necks, super nice but way overkill and cost is out of budget. Lmao, I'm sure the entire car will be *out of budget* but, hey, might as well do it right and 100% it the first time. 😂
Pics of the filler neck attached after wire wheel and a quick spray or two of rust reformer. It's got some pin holes and a guy I suppose could schmutz it up with gasket maker to make it pass... however I bought another one off of @1GAWD87 so we'll get that one cleaned up and see if it's better.

Ohhh, nice! Is that the one from tanks inc? Yeah, with a street car it's an absolute must to have a working fuel guage. Watching Jafros most recent vids I believe I'm going to modify the sender and use AN bulkhead fittings with 6AN PTFE lines.

Rocking the OG 6 bolt, which I haven't torn down yet. Hoping it won't need extensive work. Going for 2g pistons with the 1G rods for a nice bump in compression. 2 G head with evo3 intake and comp/FP 101200 cams. Justin just built the Evo3/big 16g so I'm super pumped about that. Got the 90 OFH in and will build lines for the external oil cooler as well.

Twin piston Outlander big calipers and rotors, ABS delete.

The final frontier of the rear K member, the trailing arms! Although they're a bit c-rusty, they came apart easy and, cleaned up *ok*
Busted out the squirt gun (MIG) and got the Volk toe Elim kit assortment welded up. Also, the seams where they were ground down, probably for tire clearance, I welded those up as you could see light through em...yikes! All 100% now. A couple more coats of paint, new OE dust shields, SKF bearings, seals, and the subframe should be ready to go back together!!

It's been coming together, 1 step at a time! Had a chance to meet another local DSM legend and can't wait to see what projects they've got going on.

With the help of my buddy Travis from Wilson offroad performance, we pressed off and on all new SKF and Koyo bearings front and rear, new lip seals and dust covers.
20230221_115138.jpg20230224_094741.jpg

Finally installed the poly bushings and loosely assembled the subframe. Found out I ordered the wrong sway bar bushings, doh.
Check out those freshie 10.9 lugs all the way around. Waaaay better than what initially was there, looking good! Woot woot.

Cleaned up the crusty suspension components, hit em with the rust convertor, then some paint. Plans are to just get it back on the road, iron out all the little details that a 30 year DSM generally has. Then, upgrade down the road to Ohlins coilivers, fatty sway bar, and roll bar.
Freshie Tein S springs (-1.2 to1.5 drop), bump stops, and AGX to round out the suspenders.

Here's to some boosted pulls right around the bend!

Really nice work!

Thanks, Marty!
I'm locked in and focused to just keep chipping away and making progress. 1 foot in front of the other and remembering to enjoy the process, too.
I've been following your 90 1ga revival, looking good, man! Giving the ole gal some treatment with the goodies!

Let's get them going at the same time. I have LOTS of little things to double check. I realized I didn't even have a battery today so essentials = $300
That's DSM life.
Keep up the "chipping", it will pay off! :thumb:

While drilling out broken bolts isn't exactly ringing high on the fun-o-meter, it's a necessity. So, I just dove under, got the few bolts that snapped a drill, tap, and even busted out the heli-coil on the muffler exhaust hanger mounting hole.

I'm actually shocked at how little bolts have been an issue on this car. The heads will be rusty then come right out with most of them still having the coating bright on the threads.

🙌🤘🤘🤙

See if you can *spot* the problem(s) here with the old control arms...LOL.
Edit; I've never had the car on the road under my ownership!!!

Freshie TRQ chinesium units look pretty robust! Add the poly bushings and she'll be ready to go back together.

It's a significant step as the rust proofing, painting, and replacement is virtually finished up. Other than small brackets under the hood, the major shit is done. Woohoo! Time to start putting this back together. Need to get some wheels figured out.

I picked up this busted Cobra R wheel off a buddy for a hose reel and thought it might look pretty sick with the 5 spoke on the car. Anyone used these on the DSM before? Same 5 on 114.3. Backspacing looks close if I had to guess.

Rob

Make sure you keep those cobra center caps on it. Those wheels look pretty good to me. I'd imagine they're high quality, since the cobra package is not cheap.
😂, right! V8 guys would be all cornfused.
Yeah, I think so, too. Something about that classic 5 star look. We'll see once I get the spindles back on. Haha
Was thinking about RPF1s but everyone and their grandma already have them on their DSMs, I'm going for something different.
Anything will be better than the early 2000s Enkei uni lug ultra ricer 5000s it had on it.

Been a minute since I posted but, I have been busy!Scooped up some Auzzie Evo1-3 poly steering rack bushings to replace the clapped out stock rubber ones.
20230308_221719.jpg
Since she has the manual rack I'd seen another member on here (can't remember their tag) use another drivers side power clamp with the Evo passenger side bushing. We'll see how that goes.Vic hooked it up with the needed bracket, thanks man!
20230308_221822.jpg
Got the new chinesium control arms hooked up with the ES poly bushings
20230308_221848.jpg
Spruced up the front cross member, drilled out and replaced a broken bolt.
Bam!
20230314_201543.jpg
There's no way I could pass up the opportunity while I'm here to strip the engine bay, scrub/clean it, then what's the hell, may as well prep and paint it, too! I'm not pulling the fash to get the harness completely removed so I did the best I could to keep it clean. Hell, it needs work anyway. Haha.

Time for everyone's favorite task next, clutch pedal assembly removal....yay.

Keep on hammering out there, let's drive em, not hide em!

No problem man glad to help you out. Looks good I got the moog all around clean set up I just installed volk set this weekend all in.
