My eclipse needs a lot of work to be what I consider in good condition. I found a 1998 eclipse RS for sale and he would take $1500, and it’s already got some headers and an intake, aftermarket wheels, aftermarket radio and a couple of other things. It has the 2gb body minus the high rise wing, which is what I like. Would it be worth buying that and swapping everything from my GS to the RS like sway bars and other small things that are upgraded on the GS? I’d probably keep the motor but i would have to put the transmission from my car in it since that one needs rebuilt. Thanks for your time.

That's a lot of work to end up right where you started. Are you wanting to end up driving the RS or are you pulling parts from the RS to fix up your GS? Your post mentions doing both. Aside from the aforementioned aftermarket parts, what makes the RS better than what you've got?

If the RS motor is good and strong, the motor would be better than the GS because it has a head gasket leak. And I could get the parts I need to fix the GS but it would be well over what I would pay for the RS. I am thinking about pulling parts from the GS to make the RS a GS, mainly just the sway bars and maybe the seats(I know there are more differences but that’s the only ones I care about). I just got a transmission put in the GS with a clutch, so I would love all of that over to the RS and have a better body that needs a whole lot less work. Also the RS has obd2 and the GS doesn't

I don't see how it would cost $1500+ to do a head gasket job on a 420a. Even if the head is toast you can buy one fully remanufactured for $300 from Cylinder Head Service. They still have one of my old ones that needed to be line bored. But on the other hand, $1500 for a solid 2g isn't a bad price. It's almost worth having for a parts car or secondary driver if you could have them both running. If you decide on doing the head gasket job and need assistance I can help. It's not that complicated or expensive unless the damage goes deeper.

Amen I agree, it would be way less expensive and better to just fix my car instead of tear apart the GS to make an RS better. Would you recommend replacing the head gasket now or wait until it gets actually bad? Also, do you know if the REV9 Hyper Street II coilovers are decent or worth getting? I’m looking at buying them but if they suck I’m not going to

I would do the head gasket as soon as you can. Any coolant contamination in the oil can damage your bearings, etc. Even if there is no contamination it will still run like shit.
As for those coilovers, I have no personal experience with them. It doesn't sound like a name brand I've heard of, but who sells them?

Redline 360, here’s the link for them: https://shop.redline360.com/product...on-2g-95-99-r9-hs2-017?variant=21472359514192 . Okay I’ll look into doing that. So does the head just come off and I don’t have to do anything else besides the head or what? I’ve never messed with an engine so I really have no idea how it comes apart

If you want me to, I can send you a private message with my cell number. To somebody with mechanical experience it's a fairly easy job. If you're not very mechanically inclined then it can seem like a bit of a process but I'll walk you through it.

That would work with me. One of my friends dad is a mechanic and knows a ton about rebuilding motors and working on cars so I could probably manage if he shows me how. It id definitely take advice from someone who is very familiar with these cars
