Hey so here's yet ANOTHER issue I'm having with my beloved Talon LOL. After I take the key out of the ignition the dam starter is still trying to start the car! Turning it over continuously until I unhook the battery! Ooookay, so WTF??
Grrrrr!!

Does the clutch have to be depressed to start the car normally?

If the clutch switch isn't by passed and it continues to turn over after rolling the key back and letting out on the clutch, I would believe you are having an issue with the solenoid on the stater itself.

You gotta answer the questions we are asking dude. We can't help you diagnose anything thru a computer if you aren't answering the questions we ask you. I know you are probably frustrated and just want it fixed and I'm not trying to be an a$$hole but we can't help without answers to the questions we are asking.

Without knowing if the clutch is bypassed or not we can't rule out 100% that the ignition switch itself isn't the issue. So we need to know if the clutch has to be depressed to start the car or not.

Again not trying to be mean. Myself and almost every other member on here wants to help and keep as many DSM's running and on the road as possible.

9 times out of 10 the starter needs to be replaced. However if the ignition switch is faulty as 97egl says causing the starter signal to always be there, than it's the problem. [You'd have to measure the voltage on that starter signal wire (or disconnect that starter signal wire) while it's still spinning to be sure.]

Simple test with a test lead. Unhook the signal wire at the starter, turn the key to "ON", then use a jumper wire from the battery positive to the signal terminal to start the car (MAKE SURE IT IS IN NEUTRAL OR HAVE A BUDDY IN THE CABIN). If it continues to try to start the car then it is the solenoid. If it doesn't it is probably the ignition switch itself. Just a test.
Sorry Gary, I didn't mean to step on your toes buddy!

You wouldn't even have to turn the key at all. On the starter, connect a jumper wire to the start signal terminal (don't even have to remove the wire that's there). Then briefly touch other end to the battery positive to start cranking. Then remove jumper from battery positive and see if it continues cranking.

It can be risky so make sure to heed Garys advice. It will rule in or out the ignition switch itself. I would almost pull the sparkplug wires off to be safe.

Well I just went to a buddy of mine and got a whole another starter and solenoid going to go back to the house right now and install and let you guys know what's going on

Are you certain it's still trying to start the engine and not just getting spinning due to being caught on the ring gear?
First I'd take the old starter out and check the solenoid innards for rust.

Bench test it. Both the old and new.
Hook jumper cables to a good battery, clamp the negative to the starter body and attach the positive to the big lug. HOLD ON TIGHT or put in a vise and touch the little signal terminal with a screwdriver on the big lug. The starter will react, so hang on to it.

I once put mine in a cardboard box on the intake manifold and watched it dance.

Yes the clutch must be depressed to start my vehicle
you know what must be done...

I appreciate all you guys input and insight on this issue. The starter I ended up getting, I put it in, and it's fine.

And as always I appreciate you guys' help greatly. Thank you much
