Ideas for 3D Part Scans

Its getting too cold to work in the garage and I'm heading indoors. I'm going to play with my 3D scanner and see if I can replicate some needed/rare plastic parts. Shoot me your ideas on what to scan and I'll see what kind of success I have.

Here are my ideas:
- Screw cover for the door panel cup
- Interior mirror 'triangles'
- center console cup holder

How "durable" is the material that you use? I need a shift fork "pad" that is on an Evo Shift Fork but I doubt your material will hold up to it but thought I'd ask. :thumb:
 
The drip rails would be a good idea. Those little pads on the ends of Evo shift forks was what I was needing and thought, hell, the fork isn't hurt just that little plastic piece.
Here are all the pictures of the piece that is needed. Such a simple yet complex thing since the part wraps around the end of the fork but covers both sides, so pliable yet durable is needed. :thumb:

For 2G's there are those air vents on the doors. The slim plastic ones next to the side view mirrors. I've salvaged a couple of sets from DSM partouts but they always seem to be brittle and end up cracking after a while.
 
I don't have much faith in 3D printed parts for inside the vehicle. In the summer time when your car is sitting in the sun with the windows up, the temperatures can get quite high, causing the plastic to distort.

The engine compartment isn't a good place either. I made a special mount for my catch can, keeping it in the coolest place I could and it eventually melted.

I know they have all different kinds of filament you could use and some might work, such as the carbon fiber variety; which supposedly can stand up to higher temperatures 140C.

All depends on the material used. I have 3D printed a few pieces inside my car out of ABS and it’s all held up great for a few years now.

I can most definitely rig those up. Im pretty good with Fusion360 and my 3d printing
 
2g cluster bezel would be really handy, I'm working on a mount for the Fueltech FT550 and it would save a ton of time if it could be printed all in one shot.

Also around $350, if someone could scan one, those of us with a printer could modify and print to our liking for a couple dollars.

Yes its expensive but lets not forget to support those who support parts for us. Printers are great but they by far make to many people rip peoples products off and this has a huge effect later on.

I'm not advocating for copying anyone's parts, simply want a 3D scan of the OEM part, that's it. I will then modify the mount to my liking, as you probably saw, I already modeled my own flush mount for the FT550, from scratch and my own measurements, now I just want to incorporated that INTO the oem part, along with the Nano wideband which these guys don't even offer. I'm not ripping anyone off, simply building my own part to my liking. I have no interest in selling them either.

I dont rmember who it was but someone made a plate for their stock surround and moulded it to it and was as simple as a flat piece of something. i think it might of even been carbon. dont remember who or what system display they were using either as it was a while ago but i dont think it would be tricky to do that at least till you can find a scan of the oem surround to modify in cad
 
Any update on the plate or who would sell it for a FT550?
