Many more people are learning about Element Fire Extinguishers and how they fight fires differently, longer and better than traditional pressurized extinguishers.

If you haven't seen them, Element Fire Extinguishers remove oxygen from the fire, rather than try to suffocate it with powders or foams that leave a mess. They are rated for Class A (wood), Class B (Flammable liquids & gasses), Class C (electrical up to 100k volts) and Class K (cooking oil & grease). Since Element Fire Extinguishers don't splatter burning liquids, they are much safer to use in a tight environment. They never expire and can be mounted in wet locations. Non-toxic. Eco friendly. Child & pet safe. Made in Italy.

Here's the YouTube video of Jay Leno trying these out for his garage: Jay Leno's Garage/Element Fire Extinguisher

You can get a few different optional mounts to be able to keep them handy, no matter where you keep them, including a roll cage mount. Element Fire Extinguishers are excellent, but they are not cheap. The company does not allow us to discount prices, so sorry, no group buys.

What chemical comes out of them?

Excellent question. It's potassium particles (inert salt) that absorb the oxygen needed by the flames to propagate.

We have a technical paper on the full chemical reaction explanation that we can send to you if you would like a more detailed explanation, just shoot us a PM.

The part I like best is that, with Element, after the fire is out, you're not left with a coating of white "soot" that traditional fire extinguishers use, requiring everything to be dismantled and cleaned. And if your engine was running during the fire, guess where else that traditional fire extinguisher "soot" is going: Inside the engine!

Ironically Jay Leno was just badly burned by a automotive fire, I'm not sure how he is doing buy have heard that he is expected to make a full recovery.

This would have saved my shop from complete destruction. I would strongly recommend everyone to purchase several of these.

Ironically Jay Leno was just badly burned by a automotive fire, I'm not sure how he is doing buy have heard that he is expected to make a full recovery.

I've been following that story. The first reports were that he was working on his steam engine car and ignited atomized fuel sprayed on him, but given that it was one of his steam cars, it's possible that this was a steam burn. I have friends and family in the healthcare field who have often commented that steam burns are the worst.

The latest I read is that he is in a hyperbaric chamber and awaiting initial skin grafs, of which there will be more later. Prayers for him and for his full recovery, for Tim too.

I'm sure we'll hear the full story someday on one of his Leno's Garage episodes.

I’m in EMS. I’ve seen skin peeled from bone before from bad steam burns. I’d rather fire than steam any day.
