Starting Around 2019-20, I got a beautiful Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder from my landlord passing. I had dreamt of getting the car since I was a kid. His sister ended-up passing it on to me. (The least exciting car he had mind you.)

I've been looking for parts and so many different upgrades and ideas for the car. I would eventually love to get it on a track or something! So far the work I have done on it is get it running get some tires on it and work on the windshield wipers. I need to go get the top put on but luckly I'm taking it to a shop soon. Its not on the road yet but it hasn't just been sitting either!!!

Congratulations! You're going to have fun driving it. As you've already discovered, you're at the right place to get all of your questions answered with the heaps of technical information archived here and experienced Eclipse owners on board.

Visit this section to help you with the items that are unique to the Spyder model:

As with any car, start with the basic maintenance and unless the timing belt has been changed in the last couple years, change that first so no engine valves get damaged if the old one breaks.

Start a build thread with photos of the transformation so we can follow your progress.

Looks very nice. Is it a GS or a GS-T?
It is a GS! I am wanting to get a turbo installed later on or even in the far future get a better motor. although this one only has 100k miles!

Thank you and I have a question about that is the timing belt a normal failure on these cars?

Eventually they all fail so it is is considered a wear replacement part. The factory recommended replacement interval is 100k miles, but that’s on a daily driving which would equate to approximately every 6 years.

What year is it? R U sure it's a GS because those are the same wheels my 1999 GST has (which I bought new and still have). If it's really a 2g (1995-1999) GS you have the Chrysler 2.4L NT engine which is not worth turboing unless you replace the engine with a Mitsubishi 2.0L 4g63T. If it's a 1g (1990-1994) then you have the Mitsubishi engine (either T or NT). Factory timing belt must be replaced every 50000mi on the Mitsubishi engine.

IGNORE THIS POST!
See post 8 for reason.

You should know better than this. Usually you are a wealth of knowledge.

It’s a Spyder GS. As evidenced by the convertible top. Means he has the SOHC 4G64 which absolutely can be turboed or easily 4G63T swapped.

I'm sorry. You are absolutely correct! I obviously had one of my old age (71) brain farts that are getting more common now. Also had a triple heart bypass 12 days ago and am recovering. Please forgive me and thanks Cracked DSM for catching it so soon. Perhaps you (and others) can keep on eye on what I say from now on. I'm no longer so sharp anymore.

Sucks getting old!
I hope your recovery goes well. Getting the chest cracked is no picnic. Hopefully that's still a long way off but I've had the rotorooter three times now.

Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Welcome! I love that color! Tops are easy to do if you've got the indoor space and a few days to fool with it. It looks like you're just a few trim pieces away from having a complete car! Nice score!

It should be a 98 gs Im not 100% on everything the car was salvaged from a flood and someone liked the wheels the gst has and put them on this one which is really nice to know! And so I am guessing I have the 4g63 it is a mitsubishi engine. That is awesome to know before I go get the cars tags and stuff Ill priority the timing belt if it looks like its been through 50k because the car has been sitting for the past like 10-15 years.
