I actually wrote a very detailed how to in the articles section under exterior of you want to check it out. Basically what I do though is I take it all the way down to bare metal with a wire wheel, then use new seam sealer on any parts I took off or even new spots I feel should have had some in the first place. After that I put a coat of the rust inhibitor spray from rustoleum down. Then I put a coat of self etching paint over that, and then a light primer color over that. All by rustoleum. Then I have paint I had mixed from automotive touch up and I spray it with an atomizer sprayer from home depot. After that I spray a clear coat over that also from automotive touch up. It’s not obv 100% professional but it does the job and actually looks amazing. Feel like once I dial in the mixture of thinner/base/activator or hardener it could be better LOL.
I'm going to invite you to my garage so you can do this. With the added difficulty of working on a car with perfect exterior pain!

I found a really good solution for anyone wanting to clean up their grounds and also still protect the bare metal underneath. So as everyone knows, a solid ground involves bare metal to bare metal connections, which could possibly lead to corrosion! So I found a cool tool abs chemical to help prevent this. The wire brush creates a small perfect round clean surface and can be used on both the surface and wire side too. It has a built in centering tip to help as well. After attaching the connection spray a layer of the protectant, wait for it to tac up and spray another layer to be sure. Don’t do have layers of course.. hope this helps!

Here is the spray and then a connection I used the process on.

Well harnesses are back routed and also took some time to clean them up. Re-taped and loomed some that were in poor condition and cleaned all the wires inside too. Came out pretty good and was hoping to maybe start it up. My AEM FPR had other plans however… fuel pressure spiked about 100+psi and shot fuel down all my boost hoses and into the new greddy controller and boost gauge. Now waiting on a new fpr and replaced the inline filter through the silicone hoses. Hoping it didn’t do any damage to my boost electronic parts. We shall see.

What size oil filter sandwich plate did you use?
Hey there, I did not use an oil sand which plate at all. I hate those things, they leak so often and extend the filter too close to the exhaust for my liking. I used The evo lll oil filter housing that allows for external oil cooler. It’s a direct bolt on except one longer bolt is needed. I used the forum article write up on here and it was really easy. Hope this helps.

Indeed thx

Well the move went well and without incident. Only had the cover want to come off a couple times and then had the toast or organizing the new garage. With most moves you know how it goes, stuff just gets shoved in the garage hahaha. But after three weeks I now have a work area and a spot to begin on the GSX again. Planning to pull the motor as soon as I get a cherry picker.

God do I know that feeling!

Need more local dsmers so we can just all pool together on one and share it when you need it. $400 isn’t exactly impossible money but I’m only gonna use it twice. Hard to swallow that cost for something I use twice. Lol.

Also forgot to say I had ALL the interior tunnel parts cleaned and powder coated. Came out amazing and super clean too. Broke down the axles and did the rebuild trick listed on here for getting new 2G AWD axles. Worked perfect!!

Great write-up and updates. following along, keep up the good work. Are you able to link the new 2G AWD axle post, cant find it when i search.

Thank you

Well the plan is to do things pretty slow and learn as I go so I will be using a stand for quite a while. Renting would end up being way more expensive.

Yeah man, here is the link and walk through that I used. Worked perfect and the numbers are spot on. Hope this helps man.

What Fuel lines did you use and what was the size?

I used the vibrant nylon braided hose that I got from stmtuned. I used the blue/black for the feed and then solid black for return. For feed I went with -8an size and then for return I used the -6an, which is supposed to be similar to oem return. I did drill out the return nipple thing inside the tank on the pump housing, which I think is on a write up under articles somewhere. My pressure seems to be spot on so seems to be working and holding pressure great. Hope this helps.

Will you be running the factory splash guards as well in the wells or leaving as is with the por 15/rubber coating

I am looking for maximum protection at all times so I will def be using the factory splash guards as well. Just happy when I purchased the car they were still there and in really good condition. The only issue I thought I may have was the lower splash guards hitting the intercooler piping but I managed to get under the drivers side ok without cutting it. It sits a little lower than the bumper height but that is ok with me since I do not plan on lowering the car much from factory ride. The passenger side was not an issue at all.

Well guys, I know it has been a while since I have posted an update… buuut work schedule changed and we have been exploring our new city so the GSX kinda got put on hold. However, there have also been huge updates on the OWNERSHIP of the GSX and I have been working up a deal on other projects. So I have been fiendishly working to get the car back together for the NEW owner…

So here is how she sits now after working to get her back ready for shipment. FINALLY got around to doing a shakedown test since I never did one after allllllll the new parts installed. There are def some bugs I have to smash before I load her up in late Sept/Early Oct. If those dates sound familiar it’s because that’s shootout! Plan is to move on to another chapter with another project then.

Have to work out a bug with the cluster (for all those eagle eyes that noticed it’s missing the shroud).

Trimmed bumper more but still needs a very small amount taken off the inside corners to be perfect.

Going to miss how perfect the interior is…

More to come soon everyone. Much more…

Well got more prep work done today for new owner. Shake down test told me the rear driver’s e-brake was dragging so adjusted it and all good. Also apparently I did not do a good job bleeding the brakes the first time so knocked that out too. Since it was the first time driving it since all drivetrain was rebuilt, I also re-checked rear diff and xfer case fluid levels so correct level.

I know I am going to miss how clean these freaking pinch welds are… one of the best I have seen and no rust. Don’t mind the broken bolt head too, that will be fixed over my weekend.
