Momo wheel install turned out nice, looking good man!
Thanks man!! I like how it looks too. Only drove it around the block LOL waiting for the rain to wash the salt away.

Found the water leak so I adjusted the hatch latch and added plastic folded shims under the weatherstrip to slightly raise it. Seems to have fixed it 🤞.

Applied grease to the weatherstrip to make sure it’s making good contact. Should have done this before the fact.

Also got to drive the car with new steering wheel and I have to say that’s the biggest improvement for the feel of the car. 350mm is perfect, Thanks to Hiroshi!

Took the cluster cover off to polish out a scratch and after installing it, I noticed the cover was a bit loose possibly contributing to some dash rattle. Added some last bit of foam adhesive to see if it helps.

Evaporust is the real deal Holyfield!

Spent the last few days cleaning and treating the trim pieces that we’ll never see new. Cleaned and treated all the weatherstrips. 2x per door, one on the firewall, 3x on the front of the hood, top of hatch and the trim around the quarter glass. Something must have fell on the quarter glass trim which was dented and scratched. Didn’t come out perfect, but much improved from before.

Cleaned up 3 years of caked on dirt. The trim on top of the rear hatch was tricky, REAL tricky. Eventually got them off, cleaned and treated them.

Picked up a few oe clips which are surprisingly still available. Also fine tuning closed loop areas in ve table on the street is such a pain especially when you don’t drive the car much.

A few bolts for the rear bumper had broken off and the dirt under the tail lights bothered me, so I got started early thinking it was going to rain all day. They were wrong as it turned out to be an awesome day here. Anyhoo, I’d say more than half of the bolts holding the rear busted off. For most of then, I had to torch it and use a vice grip to grab what was left and a few needed to be drilled out. That was fun. Found a few rust spot that need attention. Not sure how I’m going to tackle the crash beam. I do have Ospho so I might give that a shot.

Got the rust off so it should last another 30 years back here.

The 1g’s have an issue with the rear bumper dimpling in the middle and I think it’s from the two mounting point being stationary as it distorts over time. I used this pipe insulator I had laying around to bring that area out a little. Not perfect but better.

Bravo Tony it looks amazing! :thumb:

Crank walked a 6 bolt. It was 100% my fault for not having the mains align honed when installing the kiggly girdle. It wore into the crank thrust surface so crank is junk. Luckily found a good crank. Cleaned up the oil passages in the crank and looks like some bearing were about to let go on this one. Rod journals are all spot on but the mains are little off but still within spec. Big shout out to @pieceofcloth & @DSMPT for the help. Really appreciate you guys 🙏

Acl standard mains are on backorder 😢. ETA of early September so nothing I can do until then. All parts are ordered including ferrea valves and guides to build the spare head. Got started on some head work and I’m about 10+ hours into it blending the bowl to seat (exhaust side was aweful), cleaned up casting and short turn radius. Going to have it flow tested (if they can) when machine shop does the valve work.

While removing some casting on the inside of the head, these two large pieces flew off. Yikes!!

Just read through everything! Man, what a read and what a damn fine specimen of a 1Gb1 I gotta up my game on my build I think. Great work brother!
Thanks man! It’s been a long journey. Blood, sweat, tears, many tears to say the least 🥲

Finally got the head back from the machine shop yesterday and put in some work. Picked up JDC manifold stud kit.
