Reinstalling my transmission on my 1g dsm and i can’t get it all to lineup at once. And once i get one lined up, i can’t put a bolt in because it’ll get cross threaded like a mofo so i try and just move the other side and it all pops off. Wondering if anybody has any super helpful tips or tricks? Also yes i did use the clutch alignment tool

Compare top and bottom. Often you will have the tranny tilted and won't realize it. Tranny will slide on and sit flush without any bolts. Only then do you install bolts to avoid the crossthreading you mention. No reason to bolt anything until it's fully seated. My favorite method for install is to have trans suspended by a cherry picker instead of supported by a jack.

Yeah that’s what I’m doing right now although i tried just about every way. I tried a mix of all three of a regular Jack, an engine hoist, and an actual transmission Jack. With no success. I’ve used tow straps and also tried with the load leveler, it always tilts a little bit

There are a few bolt holes on top of the trans. Big ones for the mount. One of these you can support the trans almost completely level with a single chain. Allows a lot of movement to wiggle and all you have to do is change height slightly to align. No straps around the unit necessary etc.

Also make sure if the clutch disc is centered. If the clutch disc is off centered, the transmission won't get in.
Yeah it’s centered i used the clutch alignment tool so it’s centered

That’s what i got hooked up right now, but i hooked it to the load leveler but used a chain off both sides to hopefully even it out

I reinstalled my trans by myself with a floor jack about a month ago, very nerve racking but I took my time, what helped me were the dowel pins I used as a guide, then basically bent over the passenger fender I just shimmied it up and down, until it slide right on, again before I was jiggling anything up and down I got the dowel pin/guide I believe the one facing the radiator lined up so I new it was close, and then with a little wiggle and a jiggle she slid right home:thumb:

The only way for me to mount these transmissions is by leaning over the fender into the engine bay and picking it up by the shift selectors and hoisting it up that way. Awd can help to have a friend on the ground to take some weight off, but fwd is a piece of cake.

Good luck man. Don't give up. It came out of there it will go back in.

I always find that the spline needs to be rotated just a bit, so I usually have to get the spline lined up and kinda wiggle/rotate the trans to get the spline to line up, then it goes right in. Also, make sure your dowels are straight and in good shape I had a dowel that was really bad and I got it off okay but it would not go back on. New dowel took care of it.

It will line up you just need to be patient, and look at it again youll get it ive had mine off too many times it becomes easier.

I like to put a 1/2” ratchet on the crank, if it doesn’t feel smooth installing the trans I spin the crank a small amount and try again. This usually works for me. I also have used a longer than stock trans bolt to help align before going all the way in as a guide, once its seated I replace it with the correct one. Good luck

That’s what I do. Use a hoist to get it close then go over the p/s fender lifting it by hand into place. Removing the lower hose to radiator gives you a little extra space.

Might I suggest sliding the transmission underneath the car then just lowering the hoist far enough to hookup. No need to go over fender then.

It’s always on Jack stand when I pull the trans so that’s the way I’ve done it. Literally had the trans out 10 times since I’ve had the car. First time was using a floor jack it got stuck between the subframe, input shaft on pp and somewhere else. Bought a hoist that night as I was frustrated to say the least LOL

Oh I think misunderstood you. I do slide the trans under, then use the hoist to lift it in place. But that’s when I go over the p/s fender to lift and slide the trans on.
