Good god i think I need a new head. Machine guy called me about nicking the valves when decking the head. I picked it up and brought it home. I feel sick.
Why need a new head? Because the edge of valves are nicked or is the surface bad?

Hmm it’s not cut straight as in it’s cut more on the intake side. Idk if that’s good or not.

Well i figured too much material got taken out of the combustion chambers and the valves wouldn't clear the pistons. The surface is excellent. He removed .007 today so there was warp. I noticed that the other day doing the straight edge and flashlight trick.

You think that because the intake valves are nicked? If so, it's normal that intake valves get nicked if you don't remove valves before resurface head, because the edge of intake valves would slightly be below the surface.
 
Ok so is my head ok to use?
To be 100% sure, you have to measure the height like the link that Tony mentioned earlier. but judging by the pic, actually I don't see a big problem and it looks still within spec. I would use this head as long as if valves seat/seal well and if the surface is totally flat and straight (assuming if the height is ok).

Quick update I checked the clearances and height with the measuring equipment at work during my lunch and i think im good to go. The reasembly can take place as soon as i get the gaskets.
On another note i decided to remove my windshield banner as it comes across as redundant. But i have to say less is more.

Since had the head apart earlier this year i was curious to find out if pulling the cams out would require bleeding the lifters before installing the cam shafts.
 
Started shopping for my head gasket and decided on a cometic MLS. After measuring i need a 85.5mm bore. With that said I am trying to decide on thickness. The machine shop removed .007 to flatten the head. Any recommendations?
 
So I picked up a new set of calipers and measured the cylinder walls and the original HG piston hole ID. The cylinders measured 85mm in the block and the HG holes measured 86mm.
That seems strange considering there is a 85.5mm gasket available. Would it work better with a 85.5mm or an 86mm, or does it even matter?
 
It's not strange at all that you have 85.00mm cylinder bore and 86.00mm bore gasket. Mitsubishi head gaskets have 86.00mm bore and stock cylinder bore is 85.00mm. That is designed to work +0.5mm and +1.0mm oversize OEM pistons too. Both 85.50mm and 86.00mm would work just fine. If speaking strictly, 85.50mm would be ideal, also you would have more material between cylinders. So I would go with 85.50mm.

Got my destroyed ARP stud replacement today. The replacement bolts i purchased are bigger than the ones i took out so im unsure of why but a bigger diameter nut on each of the studs should help in the future to not strip them.

I got the ignition coils put in along this a freshly polished fuel rail after flow testing my injector. I've pretty much done all that can be done until i get the Head Gasket. I can't wait to get it back on the road.

Posted about this part a couple months back, not sure how hard it is to find this one but from what i can tell it was pretty popular back when it was sold. Now after i just finished taking the timing components off to prepare for the HG repair i figured I'd share a picture.
