Keep up the good work.. A good power wash and that floor may look brand new... :hellyeah:
The floors getting torn out and a new floor with radiant heat is being put in.

I can see where what you're looking for would definitely cost more. I've never seen flatwork guys use a full width screed board in a 2 car or larger garage. . That whole idea sounds pretty unwieldy. When I wanted to have more precise grade control, they would shoot grades with a laser and put multiple iron pins in the base material, and work the screeds using the pins. Wet concrete is close to pudding, so it can move. And you have to keep screeding/checking in both directions, length and width.

The slabs I've had poured in garages I was concerned with drainage, which isn't going to happen on a flat floor. Keep that trade-off in mind.

And then you have base settling/compaction to worry about and the inevitable cracking & movement of the slab. To sum up - sorta level, easy. Pool table level that is permanent - not so easy Anyone who ever had a basement flood has seen this. Puddles and high spots everywhere on what seems like a flat floor..
What we’re most likely going to do is zero level a 10x16 patch and the rest will have some pitch. There’s a giant drain in front of my garage to help with drainage, and we’re grading that as well. But for chassis setup I really need to have the floor flat. Especially when it goes on scales to corner balance it.

I sure hope those side skirts are in the "keep pile"
Eh. They’re wing west remakes of the 96 skirts I’ve had on the car since ‘01. They’re pretty beat up and old. I’m going to make a more race appropriate set of sideskirts.

For what it's worth, vinyl floor tiles make minor scale adjustments easy. My garage floor is pretty darn level but I still need to shim some of the pads just a bit. I've just always been of the mindset that concrete will shift/settle/etc. to something out of level, so if you can get it as close as you can, that's better than what you are coming from!

Yeah, we’ve shimmed the scales before. Want to try and avoid doing that. Just want to try and get it as flat as I possibly can.

Broke ground on the garage this weekend. Should have the rest of the floor broken up today or tomorrow. I tried my best to knock it out this weekend, but that shit is brutal work. The contractors guys are gonna finish it off for me for a couple reasons. But it should be getting done soon. Exciting!

I like that jack hammer that runs itself......:thumb:

Why don't they make a jackhammer "ROOMBA"? Sit back with a cold beverage and watch it do the work like the sweeper.
Man I know that jackhammer is a PITA to run. When I built my shop, I only had a pick axe to get through some of the rock for my plumbing, boy what a bi***!

I commend you on your dedication to your work brother .. I`m only 5.4 and a 125 lbs .. could you imagine me doing that job... My brain would be rattling around in side my noggin .... wait ... what are we talking about again.?ROFLROFLROFL

Looks like you’re gonna be bustin out garage alignments in no time!
Maybe not “no time” LOL…..but soon enough. Contractor said that after the concrete is poured, I can’t put anything on it for 27 days. I’m just looking forward to the heated floors. That’ll be very nice in winter.

Not much going on with the garage at the moment. Waiting on the home inspector to come by and sign off on a couple other things on the house before we can move forward. Garage floor has gravel and is tamped. We have a bit of an issue with how the original slab and footings were done. They way they did it when either the house was built or redone at some point, the back of the slab is a full 5 inches higher than the front by the apron, giving us a 3/8” per foot slope towards the front. That’s a lot especially when consider that over the length of the wheel base of the car, and we want level for chassis setup. So we’re trying to figure something out to make it work. More updates soon.

Haven’t posted in this cause progress was slow for a bit. But..new slab is poured. We didn’t do the radiant heat just cause it would put us way over budget so I’m just opting for an electric blower up in the corner. The new slab has insulation so at least the floor shouldn’t be brick cold in winter. Once the floor cured enough to walk on, I started prepping for paint. Took as much off the walls as I could. I primed and painted the walls with a semigloss white. The block is done in Flannel gray, which is actually more purple than I thought. It actually matches the car in a way if you know about magenta grey pearl. Still have to finish the ceiling and then I can start in the floor treatment. Not sure yet on coating or what. But it’s coming along. Also going to cut a trap door into the ceiling of the garage and lay down some insulation to try and help keep the warmth in there. Also have to run the new electric. There’s two 110v and one 220v circuits going into the garage. The cars going out for a the cage soon, so while that’s out I’ll be able to work on the trailer and make some repairs and upgrades to that as well. Definitely needs some lighting and the brakes need to be wired up. Getting there though.

Interesting on the insulated floor. Let us know how it feels when it is cold out. I didn't do that mainly because I never thought of it.
Looking NICE!!! :thumb:

Darn it Marty… you're so smart... I had to go back and look at the pics again to see what you were talking about, then noticed the insulation on the floor. Can I borrow your glasses.

Not cheap but check this out.
I have a kit but unfortunately I never got to install it. Not sure if its even any good now.

Looking good!

Do yourself a favor and install a mini-split heat pump out there, it will set you back a bit more but heat in the winter and AC in the summer is TITS. Plus you can install them yourself, 18,000 BTU will take care of your garage with 0 issue for probably less than $1500.

Definitely something I’ll look into. Thanks!!
