We took the old shitbox to the track tonight. It exceeded my goals. It went quicker and faster than I expected it to. We found the clutch needed a little more adjustment and it cost me a 13.0 if not a 12 second pass. We went down for one more run and it started raining really bad.

So the old 14b is doing a little work. The density altitude was around 8800ft tonight.

It is now the fastest known 14b car in Colorado. I need a solid 12.9 to be the quickest however. Maybe I will give it one more shot before moving on.

Dyno was a huge success. Unless anyone wants to dispute, I'm claiming the HP/TQ record for a 14b. Made 369/403. Kept gaining 4-5 hp/tq with each degree of timing so there's still more in it. Laptop died and I figured keep the turbo intact for the track. Also, I had the hood wrapped since it was pretty beat up. Next stop - shootout?

We are officially the quickest and fastest 14b powered Mitsubishi in Colorado. We have now bested both the elapsed time and mph record locally. Now I can start moving forward with the car again now that we have rebuilt the base and have a solid program we can work off of. If we can make it work on a small turbo, it should be a breeze moving forward. Now time to start focusing on getting the car back to the standing half mile and mile races.

For now I am one with this adventure. I went to the dyno a few weeks ago out of boredom to see if I could find anymore out of the setup. I did not mess with the boost anymore as at the track increasing it showed now gains. All I did was find the timing it really wanted and clean up the fuel.

i picked up 30hp and 30tq at the peak and 35hp and 35tq at redline. I even picked up 50hp under the curve. It ultimately made 305hp 295tq @19psi on a mustang dyno.

Today was a terrible day for racing however. Just terrible air. Just crap weather. Same track as last year here in Colorado.

5,800ft elevation
9,780ft density altitude

Even with the hot and dry conditions the car responded. Best pass and even further solidified the Colorado 14b record.

I backed it up with a 12.640@110. I attribute the loss in mph to heat soak in the engine. I was quicker and faster to the 330’ and 1/8th on the second pass as I nailed the 1-2 shift but, I think I rode the 3-4 shift a little too high and it cost me. That and we tried one less pound in the tires and it actually did worse on the sixty and kind of bogged a little even though the 330’ was quicker.

I was satisfied and did not feel like beating on the car for a 12.5 or the magical 12.4. I was fully content with how the car did compared to last year. Especially considering how bad the air was today. Everyone was going quite slow from what we could see.

here is the slip. It picked up .3 seconds and 6mph. Not bad for an hour on the dyno.

Im glad you guys updated this. Motivation for me, i have a smart car swapped now and want to try for my Personal best (12.5) 109ish
I dont know if it will be any better. Fun experiment i suppose

The car made 20hp and 20tq more uncorrected. And 25hp and 25tq at redline. Mountain, uncorrected numbers.

the car is heavy. It weighs 2400lbs with me in it. It has been much lighter but, has and 18 point roll cage in it. This is a 1989 turbo, fwd, Mitsubishi Mirage.

uncorrected dyno numbers were 245hp 236tq.

I am now .3 seconds quicker than the next closest car and 10mph faster than the next closest car. As you can see, our elevation is terrible. My second pass of the day the density altitude was 9,950ft. About as bad as it can get.

This car isn’t cut either. Just stripped down and a cage added. All factory glass even.

who cares what others think anyway? Not your fault they build their car the wrong way.

Finally ran the car today. First pass off the trailer, went 10.94 @ 127. New personal best ET and MPH, first time running 10s. Set the 14b AWD MPH record. they hot lapped us and on the burnout before the 2nd pass it popped a coolant line, parked it for the day. May try to get it back out before the end of the season one more time, after that it's being parted as the drivetrain is going into my friend's build.

Really surprised to get an 11 on the 14b! This is aincient rock hard all season tires, 91 pump with 1/3 can of vp octanium so my guess is 93-94 octane.
(this is an 06 smart car), wheelied maybe 1/2 inch it was a perfect run. Its 2100 lb car, super heavy for how small it is but works very well for a fun cheap setup

No its a 2006 smart car. I love building dumb stuff and light 14b cars are just cheap. This car wont ever get anything bigger its too fast as is. Way too short of wheelbase to be doing 120 mph in

I just read that it was a Smart car! That is so awesome! Do you have build thread?
No, but if you're on instagram theres some pics and videos the_smart_one_1

That real fast, how much NO2 were you running?

@Steve93Talon you plan on making more passes?? What’s the weight of the car if you don’t mind me asking?

Swapped in an auto and beat my own time!

Pretty cool what you’ve done. Not something one would think about.

Justin, plenty might think about it, but he actually did it! That is the most impressive part! ;)
Thank you both but i cant take too much credit its not an original idea there was a guy on here who already did it of course! In 2015ish the thread is still here but all the pics are down. He is from Venezuela and it went inactive, never got any videos. It had a 50 trim and he kept his narrower and used hybrid axles that kept breaking. The setup works amazingly well but i wouldnt want to go much faster in it as the wheelbase is so short.
Fasterproms (youtube guy) did a k24 smart right after i did this theirs is 600whp and its already been rolled and wrecked.
Yes i am one of few stupid enough to do a swap like this haha. Its fun to drive tho and the crowd at the track love it 😂

It's still together, the drivetrain is going into my friend's car but he's not the type to make much progress so I may dig it out again. I'd guesstimate it at around 2100 lbs without me. I'd love to get into tubular subframes, CF body parts, etc to get the weight down more but I don't have the time or motivation at this point.

Wow that’s pretty light for an awd. Well it be cool to see ya make it back out for some more runs.

I’m jumping back to it as we speak. Tossing everything in my auto awd to sort out some parts I wanna use. Gonna give me time to clean up my fwd chassis and maybe get the body work and paint done. Something I never cared about before.

Bumping this thread to get it going again, chasing 14b numbers myself so will be using this thread often as a quick reference. Dsm profile is up to date per what parts I’m using as well as just started a build thread (years later but better late than never I guess they say)
