I've got a 92 TSI AWD with the single piston brakes and they're pretty awful. Owned the car for 10 years and have never touched the brakes other than to replace the pads, so now it's time to make some changes. Looking at upgrading to the 94 double piston setup (as suggested by 1990TSIAWDTALON in other posts) and wondering what else I'll need.

I'd like to upgrade to steel lines, but living in Western Canada I'm having a struggle locating a set locally. Is there anywhere / any specific set you'd recommend?

What else will I need to complete this? 1990TSIAWDTALON mentioned banjo bolts, but is there anything else I'll need along the way?

You would need, dual piston calipers, brackets, rotors, pads for dual piston caliper. If the calipers are 1G, you wouldn't need lines. You can use the line you have now.
As for the line, the banjo style is for 2g calipers. So if you would go with 1g dual piston calipers, you would need lines with flare fitting.

RTM Racing sells the calipers and lines. And they are in Canada.

Hiroshi, the 1g dual piston calipers have been super hard to find for me (and RTM says they are out of stock also) but the 2 piston 2g calipers are a super easy swap. You just have to use 2g lines (which you should be replacing anyway), 2g rotors and the banjo bolt to attach the lines to the calipers, the rest will bolt in. I order calipers WITH the brackets (I think most come that way). That is why I did the writeup with the later model calipers, I ran RockAuto out of their 1g dual piston stuff. OMG

Im running these vr4 calipers and rotors got from a buddy before it was the 2g brake calipers and rotors for a upgrade.

Here is a compiled list from RockAuto for upgrading to 2g dual piston front brakes on an AWD 1g as of today, 5/13/2021.
The calipers listed here come with a banjo bolt for the 2g lines, so you don't have to purchase it separately (Oreilly's Brake Best #H9477-2).

Yeah that's right Marty. If he is looking for a 2g caliper kit, the banjo lines are the one he would need. I am aware of that the 1g dual piston calipers are getting hard to find and the 2g caliper can be used on 1g. I sometimes see people are struggling to find a 1g set. I got mine from RockAuto many years ago, but at that time it was a little bit difficult to find already. So I'm sure your write-up would be helpful more and more!
BTW, I see 1 set (left/right with bracket) of 1g dual pistons calipers w/ bracket in stock on RockAuto site now.

Don't think I didn't catch that too H-man.....I saw it but didn't want to unrail the thread.
When I nabbed mine 3 yrs ago, they were only available in PowerStop and came powder coated red. Yeh, the good ole days hahahaha.
The only thing kinda strange about the 2g brake line is that you have to cut a split in the hose stay and bend one side up and the other side down to fit the new line into it, then you just bend them back straight and everything plays well. I can send more details to anyone that needs it. It was probably the common sense in me that had me mod it that way.

I will promote this product if you would like to color your calipers. I think they offer more than Red but this stuff works really good and flows out well for a nice finish. I have done my calipers with this and also a water tube. They look great and my 5 year old grandson helped me paint....any flaws just flowed out.

Ohh I see, sorry about that Marty. 😓

Oh no. Do not be sorry. If the OP can get a 1g 2 piston set, that is what he wants. My options weren't there lately so I did the next thing, the 2g swap.
I am thankful you found the original double piston set so that is the thing to do! You always come thru! ;) :thumb:

Thanks for all the feedback. Sorry if this is a silly question, but would this kit work / be better or worse than the Nugeon set suggested earlier?

Also - if I got this set would I still need new lines?

Dealing with a concussion, brain retention and understanding is a little off sometimes.

Yes @TalonsThree , that kit is listed as a 1g dual piston kit, which would mean you use the stock lines. I actually have that kit on one of my 4 cars, and it is a nice setup. Already powder coated and drilled/slotted like mine.

If the calipers are truly 1g calipers, then it is just a swap out. If they have swapped in 2g calipers for the kit, then you would need a pair of lines and 2 banjo bolts. I couldn't see the back of the calipers you are looking at to see if it was a screw in hole or a banjo bolt hole.
I would grab that set up and be glad you found them!

Ordering it right now. Thanks for all the feedback, everyone.

Run rear outer brake lines from a 93-97 Honda accord to use 2g calipers in a 1g. It replaces the stock outer line with a banjo provision and its close to the same length.

The 2g lines are really the perfect line to use if using 2g calipers since they are made for that body. Mine are just what the car wanted when I switched to a set of 2g calipers on my 1990's.
Thankfully, the OP found a set of 1g calipers so no alterations are necessary.

Got the kit and the rotors don't fit over the hub, leaving maybe a quarter inch gap. The parts shipped were correct but I'm struggling mightily here. Could this be a manufacturing defect, or what would you recommend?

Pics please. You sure your hub isn't just rusty crusty?

Where the key is pointing is where it's not quite fitting. You can see on the second photo, the hub's a little rusty but nothing that should be holding this back so much.

Check the center. It's more close tolerance there if I recall. It's common to run a wire brush on the hub when changing rotors

I have a '92 Talon TSi AWD too and the brakes aren't that great either. I'm running stock and don't do anything special with the car like racing so I can live with it, plus I've put way more money into the car this past year than I'd expected and hoped to, but if I do decide to upgrade to 2 piston front brakes I'll certainly refer to this thread.

In the meantime, how much of an improvement would switching to SS hoses on all 4 calipers be, compared to switching to 2-pistons up front? Obviously on a 29 year old car. I rebuilt all 4 calipers last year, the MC's good, I bled everything, but the lines and hoses are all original. I'm probably going to do it in any case, most likely FTP from Extreme PSI, but am curious.

Also, for those who do upgrade to 2-pistons, is it highly recommended that they swap the stock hoses for SS ones, especially if they're the original ones?
