Well total and ultimate disappointment. Spent the weekend putting my fresh rebuilt trans in and it is slipping in 1st and 2nd. 3rd and 4th and reverse are fine. I am tired. I will need some rest before I go back and take this apart again but not sure what the heck went wrong. Very soft 1st and 2nd. I backed her back into the bay and hate to keep her there but I am still thinking on what could have went wrong. All that work wore this old man out. I wish I had a better update, but it is what it is.

Bout to give up Tony.....hate saying it.
Maybe I will feel different in the future, would like to have my smile back.

You all are my best friends, thanks for your advice! I think I will change my focus. I got ahold of the rebuilder and we are going to get the car down there for pressure testing and then proceed from there. I have the red Talon motor ready and just need to tear into the 5 speed far enough to "fix" 3rd gear (which I have no idea what went bad but she now grinds going from 2nd to 3rd but not 4th to 3rd and it only has 1000 miles on it, maybe). I haven't ever had a DSM 5 speed apart further than the end case to fix 5th gear, but I will need you guys to give me some tips and pointers to get that done and then the 1st DSM I ever owned will be back running again (and she makes me smile real big too! :thumb:)
Again, thanks brothers for the advice and confidence boosting that I really needed!
I have that 400 SBC I need to get assembled also, so while I wait for my turn at the trans shop, I do have other projects that need my attention. (Really the Chevy stuff eases my mind more since it is so simple and just sitting on one of my engine stands :shhh:)
Marty

Also, since I mentioned earlier that I was getting my Drag Radials mounted (anticipated driving and racing) I have some pictures (cause we all like pictures!!!) of said tires that I bought way back in 2014 to use on the red Talon. Now when I am running on "Blacks", I am on the stickys!!! :D They are Hankook Ventus Z214's, and VERY soft!

I had a couple folks ask me about the center caps on the black 2g rims. They are these and I had to trim them with scissors and make the convex curve a concave curve to fit on the 2g center caps. They came in a little too big but I trimmed them and they do make the rims pop.
Anyways, just in case anyone else wanted to know, the link is above.

Alrighty, here's the new dual piston 2g calipers....yes they were ordered as 1994 calipers but I got banjo bolt fitting calipers so I think they are 2g by the looks. Anyway., a couple Oriellys banjo bolts and customized hose hold stays and we are IN business!
Here they are. If you have any questions about the hose hold downs just ask, it was pretty simple.

Oh yeah, just went to get groceries in her as a test after using the 1 man power bleeder!

Had a few questions about your brake upgrades - started a new thread so I didn't hijack this one on you. Please shoot me a dm or check out https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/92-tsi-awd-brake-upgrade-help.534189/

Thanks!

@TalonsThree, shoot me a PM with any questions, it is pretty simple. :thumb:

I spent WAY too many years under my "favorite" shade tree. $35K was well worth it. The lift was only $1800. They are affordable now days! Thanks for the complement, I really deserved it! It will have A/C this year, YAY!

Yes you are right about that. I had that built 3 years ago. I went to the lumber yard and priced a new back door for my house last month, so I would know how much I needed to save up, and that thing went up $10 in price from the time of my estimate until last Saturday, when I went and picked it up. :f-u:

Well...…….back to the 92 Auto car. She is on the lift...….again......for the trans R&R. Thanks to all my friends that encouraged me to step back, take a breath, and then get back at it. I think I am ready for some "BOOST"!!!!
Marty
Proof is in the one picture that I shot yesterday, after work. :)

Quit giving me away dammit...…...ROFL

I'm up to my neck in projects, thats what I'm up too......
But, at the moment, we have more progress.
You'll notice a "stain" on the cardboard on the floor.....don't forget to drain fluid before puling the half shaft.....:ohdamn:
I took the time to notch the hub of the parts store CV shaft so I don't have to use my special punch to get the circlip to release the passenger side axle.
Maybe tomorrow it will be out and the new one at least bolted up.

The spyder gear crossbar is in the way. No extension will fit past that bar so I modified a pawn shop/harbor freight pry bar for just that situation.

Well progress on the Talon again. One unit out, one unit in. There are still many things to put back together but.....progress!!!

The attachments that were here got hacked so I removed the links. Sorry

Does the auto trans go straight up and over, or is it like the manual tranny where are you have to kind of rotate the trans over the clutch cover in order to clear the sub frame?

also, are those Ventus tires the ones that have the 40 treadwear?
