Ok I have a 2g 97 gst and when I bought it one day I was replacing the thermostat sensors and once I put everything back started the car I noticed steam came out of the manifold but later found out it was kind of like water but it would evaporate quick it was cracked just a little.

I didn’t think much of it since I thought it was just heat that cracked it so id plan to just get it welded up and done.

once it was welded up I replaced my radiator fans and I had also replaced my radiator cap with a autozone one that’s square and has like a red lock fast forward a little and one day while driving the car so much pressure builds up and the big front radiator hose comes loose.

now the car has a mishimoto radiator cap hold 18lbs of pressure and it builds pressure tons of it so I have 2 questions (1 is my head gasket gone or could it just be the radiator cap and also my coolant hoses are in pretty bad shape (2 was the car sold to me with a blown head also when I got the car the guy put distilled water in the coolant jug but I didn’t think much of it.

spec for the cap is 11-15 psi
i would get an OEM radiator cap.
STM has them for $15 and change.

if your worried about the head gasket check the compression and/or you can check for combustion gases in the coolant with a combustion leak detector.

As far as distilled water, your technically supposed to use it along with antifreeze, but i use tap water..
Distilled is just pure water without any minerals in it.

I got a response from a guy working on the car and he said he thinks it’s the head since he got rid of all the air in the system and in just two days after he checked the radiator cap and it released tons of pressure does this basically confirm it?

No it doesn't. Under what circumstances was this? Hot car? Conduct the proper compression, leakdown or combustion gas tests and get some objective data. Right now you're guessing
Does the car run well? Are you driving it? Yiu start the post without any background. Have you had it awhile or you JUST bought it? Give us the whole story.

You posted awhile back about blowing a radiator hose off. Did you figure out why? The same tests I've mentioned will help narrow down problems. You might also see if your cooling system holds pressure. If it doesn't figure out why. Yes head gasket could cause loss of pressure too but so could many other things. I see two major issues in the past. One yiu overheated. Did it cause damage? 2 you blew off a hose. That likely isn't a coincidence.
What is the current car status?

I checked of course and I mean everything was fine water and oil were clean didn’t overheat it would just be really nice could that kind of like water I guess a little tiny drip coming out of the manifold hint at the head?

Current car status is car is sitting at a shop but I plan on replacing my mishimoto radiator cap and the coolant hoses that u ordered

This is your thread.

"So driving today to get my water pump replaced and while driving lots of smoke came out by the hood then it started to over heat by the needle so put it into neutral and turn off the car stop by the side of the road and my top radiator hose has come off I replaced both my temperature sensors and the thermostat I don’t know what it could be it was leaking coolant everywhere if anyone could get back to me as soon as possible it’d be greatly appreciated"

So did it overheat or not?

Does the car have coolant in it? Or just water?
It needs to have a proper mix of antifreeze and water.

Yes all the way to the top and then I turned off the car in hopes to save the head

Just antifreeze

Im heading over to the shop so I’ll update you all and try to get more answers for all the questions but yeah you’re probably right if the car overheated a ton head Is probably gone

Welp yep head is gone and I’ll go with the rebuild any recommend brands for parts?

Well what's your goals. We can't recommend parts if we don't know what the goals are for the car. And remember realistic goals not xxxx. Lol

yeah of course my plan for the car is a nice street daily I don’t know how much power the cars making you can see the mod list on my profile but I’m not trying to drag or anything maybe one day I would like to make a hill climb build but yeah for now just a fun daily with some power.

Put stock valvea in it. Put it together. No disadvantage to adding better hardware now rather than later. Arp studs are a good choice.

So looking at your mod list. What kind of harmonic balancer do you have? fluid
dampner Or a solid one? But I'd keep the valves, lifters, cams stock. Throw some regular arp headstuds and some bc0100s valve springs.

well car is all put back together definitely appreciate everyone helping out also my fiav was deleted because it was causing a high idle but yeah car is all good now
