We are making a "weighted" shift knob, for the Blue 90 GSX I am building, out of a 2" or 1 7/8" trailer hitch ball we got at the pawn shop for a buck. My Red profile Talon actually has a round, chrome HEAVY shift knob (Greddy I think) on it but I don't have a picture on me. I will try to snap one tonight. It makes the shift throw pretty easy since it is heavy. I am going to have the trailer ball drilled and threaded and see how it works out. :idontknow:
I love the one in my Red car, just the feel of the weight and the throw it gives. Maybe its just me.

I’ve had several different knobs on my 2g. The weighted round knob felt great w b&m short shifter but was scorching hot in the summer. I forgot what a straight knob felt like. I’m just sick of this 2g knob. It’s going in the classified soon LOL

This is in the 90 Red Talon.
Its pretty heavy but I've never weighed it, probably should.

I used to have that knob. You’re right about the shift feel with the weight, it’s really nice. I tried to find another one, I’ve been looking on eBay but no luck yet.

Funny, I've got the same knob in my 90 red talon

We are making one out of a 1 7/8" chrome trailer hitch ball, it's already cut just needs drilled and tapped.
A 2" feels too heavy like it will break a shift fork or bend something.....:ohdamn:
The 1 7/8" feels just about perfect and will loose a little weight when drilled and tapped.
Here is what is done so far. Pawn shop parts.

I gotta say, the 2g oem knob is just perfect to me. I can't see me moving away to any I've seen.

Are you sure? Thought you had this one last time I checked

Yeah post a pic when you get it. Does the price depend on the color?

Not really. All the colors for aluminum are all the same I believe, and then there's a price jump when you move to stainless. Overall MUCH cheaper than comparable mfgs. I bought a 450g knob from billetworkz and it was $110. The one I bought for my 1g is 180 grams and is $50.
I think the stainless is $80?

I see. Definitely want a weighted shifter. Had this on my Honda’s and iirc they’re the same thread pitch so it’s another option for me.

Can’t wait to see this as a finished product!

We will see. I am dropping the hitch ball off when I pick up my head at the machine shop.

@Dericsh , here is the Greddy weighted shift knob compared to the "custom" shift knob, since there was an interest in it. It feels good in the hand and I will be "testing" it on the White 90 GSX today.
I'll get a picture of that too just so we can all see.

I agree. I switched from the tall 1g pistol grip to a 2g ( really a 3kgt, I think) knob. kind of spherical shape that lets your fingers close around it, and very short, so throws are shorter, too. A few inches less, at least. Seems lime the thing to do would be to make one out of lead. Very dense and easy to shape. Just don’t chew on it.

I love it! Totally awesome

If i do another, I will counter-sink the hole to make the threads engage a bit higher in the ball, like the Greddy is made. :thumb:
I may drill this one out to allow that, it lets it sit lower on the shift shaft.

Maybe you already know, but your shift knob being lower on the shifter doesn't change the distance of the throw at all.

I do agree sitting lower is much better overall feel and pretty much anything is better than the stock 1g.
