Read over about 20 different threads on here from 10+ years ago, and it seems all 20 threads also had like 20+ ways everyone thought was the "correct" way to install a catch can, never saw such a mess of bashing and "your way is wrong, do it my way".

So I just pulled up a random picture on google and this is what it showed, so just hook up these 2 hoses to the catch can and call it a day?

It more so depends on how you want it set up. Some people prefer oem style (with vac) baffled or even dual oem style baffled with an optional check valve. Out of my experiences I much prefer vented like in the picture above with straight fittings/no pcv valve. It also seems like most high hp set ups choose to go this route. Definitely helps by not having any chance of oil getting into the intake pipe or intake manifold! If your dipstick pops out you need more crank ventilation though.

I run 2 -10an off the valve cover with custom baffles. The catch can is baffled and has 1 -10an to intake. I never see any oil in my intake. Drain the catch can every month or so. Normally is just oily E85 smelling water assuming its condensation on start up. No PCV valve.
 
I have a couple extra check valves I can ship one to you if you want it. Bought 6 to justify the shipping cost.

One of the moderators on here has those diagrams that you attached in his thread on different car builds the one you have attached is ideal street build PCV system if that is what you are after
 
For a street car you really want a vacuum source to help venting since you will see lower speeds and more idling. For a track car just venting to the atmosphere is usually preferred since you are at full boost most of the time and you change the oil often.

I got thousands of check valves here at work, I’m guessing they’ll work. They are rated for upwards of 50psi.

It’s going on my daily driver, just trying to figure out if I need to keep the PCV and get a 2 input can, or route it thru a 3 input can.

As I was reading in another thread, they said use the diagram I posted and use the one that’s circled. Now I’m no master mechanic, but my car has a hose going from the valve cover and down under the air intake. So I was guessing I unhook that hose from the valve cover and plug it into the OUT of the can, then run another hose from the valve cover to the IN of the can and leave the PCV hooked up like it is now.

That's how I run on the street cuz I'm pretty much in boost all the time. My gas mileage is terrible. :D
 
Just read over a post from 2010, I’m gonna go with a sealed can from VC to turbo intake, then maybe later on go with another one from PCV

That is how I run mine, two separate cans and both have their vacuum (PCV to intake has two check valves in line to the catch can). Make sure you get oil/air separators rather than just empty cans or they won't do much.

Where does the factory PCV go to? haven't even traced that line yet, but if I run PCV to intake, where would the hose going from BOV to intake go? or just leave it off completely?

The picture you posted in post #3 is how I have mine run. You run the breather(Left side of VC) to a seal separator to the intake pipe(pre turbo). The PCV line runs to a second sealed separator can to the intake manifold with a check valve between the separator can and intake manifold. So to make it easier:

#1 Breather port -> sealed separator can -> intake pipe
#2 PCV -> second separator can -> check valve -> intake manifold

Make sure you have a good check valve between the intake manifold and the can, you don't want to pressurize the can. I run this one (3/8) which can handle up to 150 PSI and costs $1.49:

yea that's how I was going to run mine whenever I get a 2nd can, for now with just the 1 can I'm gonna go from breather port > can > intake pipe, but when I add the 2nd can, where does your BOV line run? as you can see in my pic of my engine, the BOV goes up to the intake manifold, do I just delete that hose all together?

No your BOV will run to a nipple on the intake manifold. The BOV has a different nipple than the PCV.
 
I used an ebay 2x -10an oil catch can and filled it with a stainless steel dish scrubber or pad, kinda look like steel wool but way more porous, this helps capture the oil and water vaper, costs like $15 for the can and ss wool. this is an atmosphere vent set up.

where did you run the outlet hose to? Intake right before turbo?

also did you know any difference in the way the car runs? I read a thread from 2010 on here where Calan was talking about his catch can and a few other guys was laughing at the ones who bought the vented catch cans, they was saying the system is suppose to be closed and they feel bad knowing there are a lot of DSMs on the road running like crap because they used a vented can, after reading thru that whole thread I ended up buying a sealed can. It will be here Friday.
 
It matters what you’re intending the car to be. If the car is a race setup, vented will be fine as you will change your oil more often. If it’s a daily/street driven, you would want the sealed with a vacuum draw. Yes you can run the open on the road and people do it but that’s the general idea. You will be fine with a sealed setup, what can did you buy? Did you get a catch can or an oil separator can? If you got an open can, you can do what flash did and put some material inside to help catch some of it, the scotch bright pads work well.

it was an Amazon special, has a brass filter in the lid and also comes with one of those metal kitchen pads, but it’s prob a cheap pad that’ll break apart, so I’m just going to buy one from Walmart and put in.

also I notice on yours, your valve cover hose is going to the can then from the can to the intake right at the filter.

I have two of those hose fittings on my intake right at the filter but they are plugged, and my valve cover hose goes down somewhere by the turbo. As I said I’m no master mechanic and have absolutely no idea on any "BEST" setup, should I just take the hose off my valve cover and run it to the OUTPUT of the can then from a hose from the valve cover to the input? Or should I track down the hose from the valve cover and see where it hooks up and move my output from the can closer to the filter?

Just run the breather hose from the valve cover to the inlet of the can and the outlet to one of the fittings on the intake PIPE by the filter, that’s it.

aight thanks, I’ll have to track down where my breather hose is connecting now and plug it up.
With the storm coming in it’s been wet and rainy here so haven’t had time to check it all out, but this weekend is suppose to be nice and my can is coming Friday so I’ll get it all sorted then.

you also mentioned separate nipple for the PCV and BOV on the intake, where does the factory PCV hook up to? As my PCV hose goes down behind the intake somewhere
 
The last owner likely just ran them down towards the ground and are not connected to anything. Just look on the intake manifold and find a fitting that is the same size and in the general location, use that one. The PCV will have one right by it and near that is another fitting in similar size to use for the BOV.

I don’t have a photo to explain it, just look at some pictures of stock engine bays if you are struggling.
