How important are the dowel pins that go in the rear main seal housing. I bought new ones but I forgot to put them in when I installed it. Now I have the clutch and trans on the blocks. Don't really want to take it all back apart.

Are the 5 bolts enough or should I go ahead and take it back apart.

They align the seal housing to the block so the seal isn't biased radially and leaks.

They're pretty important, if the engine isn't installed in the car and completely hooked up, I'd pull the trans, clutch and FW and redo it.

Bite the bullet & do it now. Be a lot easier than not doing & having to do everything from the beginning just to fix it later.

Completely agree, without it, there is a good chance it leaks and ruins your clutch. It wouldn't take much for it to be out of alignment without the pins. If you have the time, I'd re-do it, you can probably do it faster the second time anyway.

Not suggesting it’s ok, but provided you pushed the seal all the way into place and tightened the housing in steps, shouldn’t the crank align the seal? Wouldn’t you want the seal zero’d about the crank’s centerline rather than a fixed location on the block anyway?

Try this on most engines and you'll end up with a huge leak. If you remove seal plate pins on a Ford modular, your seal plate can move all over when tightening down the bolts.
