So I’ve been reading everywhere from the ls1tech to the Honda forums since I cannot find much info on how high people have revved their car that has arp 2000 rod bolts . I know weight is a huge part of it . With that being said I am running Manley turbo tuff I beams with a weight of 648 grams (per rod) . And Manley platinum series pistons with a weight of 364 grams(per piston) . As far as my wrist pins I’m not sure on the weight . As they are still coming in the mail . They are Manley 42543-4 wrist pins . .827x.210x2.250 . I plan on reviving the car to 9k. On a 6466 , around 40-45 psi if need be. I have a goal of 850. Not sure if I’ll hit it but it’s just a number I’m shooting for .I just wanted any personal experience with anyone revving their arp 2000 rod bolts this high on such heavy of a rotating assembly. Unless you are on a moon Dyno, you won’t be making 850 with that turbo here in Colorado. I just finished a 2g and all in the turbo would only do 765hp on the Dyno. That is On a very accurate mustang Dyno. Those are awfully small(thin) wrist pins. And you definitely sold yourself short on your pistons.

unless you have some magic combo I have never seen, you won’t be making useable power at 9,000rpm either.

We run Manley I beams in our Mirage and have been to 9,800rpm without issue as our car is FWD and we need the rpm. When we were revving that high, the car was making 880whp and using a Borg Warner S475.

You will need to be well north of 40psi to have any chance at making power here with that little turbo. With his car all in the most it would make was 46psi on the spike and hold 41psi out the back. Trying to turn it up anymore and the power went down and back pressure went up. He didn’t believe me he was out of turbo so we put all the springs in the wastegate and added a back pressure sensor. Gate pressure started at 33psi. So going past 46psi should not have been a problem. His back pressure was in the 65-67psi range at that level. Turning it up and the boost stayed the same and back pressure sky rocketed.

Gotta love Colorado , down in Florida there’s a 6266 car making 750. I hate the air up here LOL ! I figured the turbo wouldn’t wake up until 55-6100 up here on a .83 t4. If that’s the case I might look into a s372 . I couldn’t find any bigger wrist pin as the turbo tuff wrist pins aren’t made for 1g’s and the stm spec are also not made for 1g.. I guess I could have figured out how to use the 2g 22mm wrist pin combo but wasn’t in my thoughts . I called manly specifically because I was worried about my pistons , he said the piston will be fine till 1000hp and told him the wrist pin I was running . I assume the 1000hp is at crank. As long as his word is true and the piston can survive around that number I think I’ll be alright I was just shooting for 850 because it was a big number and didn’t know if I could hit it. I would be happy with 700-750 if the car would do it. I was also just worried that I didn’t fork out the extra cash for the 625 rod bolts. And the pistons happen to be my machinist , I told him I was looking at wiseco and he said let’s do manley so I was like alright because he builds motors all the time I figured it was a good call, you know ?
 
I'm running ARP 2000's with Manley H Beam rods in my 92 Talon motor. I turn her 9k+
I agree with @biglady112, that for the numbers you are chasing, those wrist pins could have been beefier for piece of mind and not windowing a block north of 9k.
 
Rod bolts are fine, mine goes 10k frequently. As biglady says, make sure you have some pins. I broke a standard wiseco pin at like 550-600hp. I think it was a 0.150" wall. I am now using .210" wall pins and JE pistons. Been trouble free for years. Not sure what the car makes now, but it's 3200lbs and traps mid 140's. I think it's over 700.

As for useable power, mine makes peak at 8000, and it probably needs to rev 11k on the 1-2 shift to keep it in the power on a stock trans, maybe even the dogbox too. I'm on a 6466 that I made, so ymmv.

yes sir, I have the .210 same as you . I even just called Manley again to double check since I mentioned that the 21mm pins don’t have many options. He said it’s good for over 1000 on the .210. I think the setup might do alright . If not I’ll live off of what the tuner suggest! Like I say I’ll settle for 700-750 if the car will do it . Thanks for the input guys
 
For reference, I also run the .210" wrist pins in my motor.
 
Arias makes a .230 wall pin. According to the math, a thinner 22mm pin makes more sense though. The .230” is for a Honda so you’ll need to find a part number to locate it. I have them in a motor but it hasn’t run yet.

We’ve gone off-topic but rotational mass is still related to the rod bolts right?

It is a foolish myth that 22mm pins are bigger and better. In general they will be thinner wall thickness than a 22mm pin. There are pins available from everyone. You call the manufacturer, not a shop. They don’t know shit. And the retard at Manley is a salesman. Is he going to be there for you if one of those things comes apart? Nope. That piston is not a high performance ordeal. That is a short coming for you as well. Not enough meat and weight for what I would be willing to use for that power level long term.

I wouldn’t personally run a Wiseco either. Better stuff out there in my opinion. But, you have what you have.

bastard, those small shaft turbos are shit up here. I have to max every turbo out to do anything half way decent here. An all in, balls to the wall 16g car runs high 12’s here. Most folks on their own end up in the 13’s and 14’s here. 5,800ft is retarded.

thanks for the info, you’re right I have what I have and I’m gonna just have to see how it does! If I have to I’ll leave it turned down and only make 600 I would really like to see 700-750. The 800 was just me shooting for something I knew I couldn’t hit (; . Hopefully all goes decent and it’ll stay together . I do wish I had a different piston setup but it is what it is and we’ll just have to wait and see !
