Hello everyone,,
My question is if the book "Engine Management: Advanced Tuning" by Greg Danish is a good start into the world of ECU tuning. I have 0 experience and would like to learn about the subject. I head it is a bit out of date and if anyone has a more recent book please do tell me the name.

Thank you all in advance.

I have the 1st book, but I didn't need it as I build motors and just wanted a book in case I had a question but never had to use it. Really the 2nd book LOOKS like it addresses ECU management but its pub date is a little old for some things in my opinion.
I read up on things, jumped into my computerized car and figured, it didn't run anyway, how can I hurt it. Before you know it, I understood a lot by just playing AND got the car to start up and run. I have been trying to hone my skills of tuning and do decent but when it comes down to squeezing every last HP out of it, I hire a REAL tuner.
Welcome to the forum!!!
Glad to have the guys from across the pond on here to give us some help! I am sure you will be able to learn a lot here and over on the ECMTuning site that has questions and answers for those of us that are using modified ECU's.

I learned the most about EFI tuning from an old pdf from AEM Performance called "EFI Basics". It reads more like a manual than a book & I must of ready through it at least 4 times, each time more piece of the puzzle would fall into place. In my opinion the concepts to EFI systems hasn't changed much after all the aftermarket ECU started appearing on the market numerous years ago. They all are trying to do the same thing in different ways. A copy is attached in this thread & it's free. https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/aem-v1-consensus.508113/page-2#post-153623301

Nice link!!!!

Im in the same boat, total newb but i'm guessing you firstly have to work out which engine management system your going to go with, then learn everything about that system. Essentially they all strive for the same thing but in different formats. I was going to go with Haltech but as Jafro says DSMer for life so theres only ECMLINK brother. Depends how many horses you want too...

All ecus function about the same way. That expensive haltech isn't doing anything extra for your car over top of what ECMLINK does. I run a megasquirt on my 4g63. Theres nothing my megasquirt can't do that ECMLINK or haltech can't do. A better way to look at it would be ECMLINK is more plug and play. Where anything else you do is going to require rewiring, a couple sets of plugs to get it to idle properly and patients. On my car every wire that runs the engine is brand new, I completely eliminated the factory harness. It was an attempt to save head aches later on since old wires can cause bad news.
Learning how to tune, would probably be better for you if you stick to ECMLINK. Theres tons of people here that can help you along your journey. If megasquirt is your choice, than you can try here or the msnextra forums. To be completely honest, if I wasn't so worried about 20+ year old wiring in my car, I would have went with ECMLINK, I have a low millage ecu thats ready for it. Another reason I didn't is after taking apart the factory harness it would have been a complete nightmare to rewire that thing, its a bloated spaghetti monster. Some wires literally just loop inside the loom back to themselves which makes no sense why they'd do that. One huge benefit I do get for megasquirt is, my ms directly fires my coils, no ignition module. You need a 90 coil pack to get a tach output.
