I will post how I came about this car when im not falling asleep as I post this but, I was told this car has been tuned by Kevin Jewer. But i know the car gets up and goes, I was also told it was tuned to 22psi, but i consistently see my gauge hit 26. . I just uploaded link today, now that I have a designated laptop for it. I have no clue how to tune, but im gonna do my best to learn, and post my logs as I go., I watched alot of Scott Laird videos today, just to start to get an idea of what I am looking at. Any and all help is welcome and appreciated.

So I originally had planned to finally start building my 1990 talon that's been sitting engine less since July of 2015. I was mocking up my engine and starting to write down what I need/want for the rebuild, when my brother sent me a link to this car. I looked it over and all the details and was very intrigued by it, even though it was right at my set budget limit. So I left a message to the guy, he later called back that night, we talked about the car for awhile. He told me that the tranny had went out on valentines day. It definitely was a hit but didn't discourage me, as I felt that if he was gonna be upfront and honest about that then I don't see why he would lie about anything else. He also had a spare tranny ready to go and be swapped in, that came with the car, as well as another aluminum radiator and thermostat housing that already was fitted with the AN fittings, another Valve cover with AN fittings, plus, another fuel rail, air intake pipe, and original side marker lights. We met up the next day after work to look over the car, I was lucky it was only a mile form my work. I spent an hour looking over the car before he ever showed up so it was nice to have no one looking over my shoulder while I looked. There was some pros and cons obviously, but my favorite was that in the listing he stated there was no rust on the car. I found that hard to believe as the car is 28 years old and it will be hard to find a car like that, granted I already have a 90 that has no rust on it. Well after looking over the car and searching forever for rust I never found any and that is ultimately what sold me on the car, as I have a goal in mind for 3 Talons, and this was number 2 of 3. So a couple weeks later after talking back and forth, I finally purchased the car and had it towed to my house. That weekend my brothers and I swapped the tranny, and it has ran like a champ since then, I've put about 750 miles on it in the last 3 weeks, I don't drive it often but I do have 150 mile round trip for work, and its had no issues. From what I can tell. I finally got a dedicatged laptop for it and link, so I can learn to tune and see what the logs saw. He did state to me that this car was tuned by Kevin Jewer at 22psi prior to him picking this car up. He didn't have it very long but he decided to get an evo, I know he said it was tuned to 22psi but when i really get into it i always see the gauge go up to 26psi, So either it was tuned at 26 not 22, I bumped the control knob for the boost controller when I disassembled the interior{most likely} for moving the gauges around/replaced., or my gauge is off. So in the meantime I will try and keep everything as updated as possible. post plenty of logs, and pictures.

Here is some pictures I took the day I went to go look at it.

Yes, I am aware that the bay is an absolute mess, it looks horrible. The battery is just sitting on the subframe not strapped down. Wires every where. zipties galore. I plan to clean it up this winter. I've already started as you will see in later pics. But honestly I just want to enjoy the car as much as possible with little down time. So I haven't been in a hurry to clean up alot of the wiring, as once I start I'll get to meticulous, next thing I know summer will be over before I finish, so I'll enjoy the car now and am planning my projects for the winter.

So my first big project was to replace the broken tranny with the spare that came with it. I was told it was stock with 112k miles, that has only had MT90 in it. So that is what I have in it now. Yes I know very trusting of me, but so far so good. I don't have any issues, so I am happy over all. I got the tranny swapped in a day, which I sure hope so having 3 of us do it, well me tell the other 2 what to do while I am under the car haha. Of course though I have before pictures of when I pulled it out, but none from when I finished that night.

On Monday May 4th, I took the car to work. and logged it from start up to time I shut it off. Which is 75 miles one way. I cruise right around 75 to 85 mph. I do have an AEM UEGO so my gauge consistently read around 15.0afr and link was consistently at 17.0afr. So I need to figure out how to get them to match up. But here you go have fun, you see anything off the wall feel free to hammer me LOL.

So I decided to go out and do some pulls today, to see what the car can actually do and really help me get a better understanding of whats really going on with the car. It's definitely interesting to see for me and to see how to eventually improve upon tuning and driving LOL. I know this car has been tuned by someone else(was told Kevin Jewer), So I am just leaving everything alone, but trying to understand why it was tuned the way it was and what's going on. These are the logs from today.

So recently I was able to get a hold of Kevin, and confirmed he did tune this car. I showed him a log, in which he did help me in some things that I needed to add to log. I did so and he told me that my WB looked off like the signal wasnt right. Well I figured out the problem and like a rookie I read the instructions wrong, and hooked up the blue wire instead of the white wire on my AEM UEGO. I finally got all that figured out. Well while I was logging trying to get the WB to log correctly, which still wasnt, I noticed my temps were stupid high. My fan is supposed to turn on automatically at 200°, I can also turn it on manually with my fan switch. My temps got up to 223°. It never turned on automatically or manually. I turned it off, looked around and quickly saw that my plug had melted.

I got in contact with @brads and talked with him about getting new connectors. Which we talked about it, and he quickly got them out with some ECU pins as well, so thank you very much!!! I'll be back when I do my full rewire of the harness. But I get that wired in. Along with I redid the knock sensor wire and it was holding on by a strand from the ECU input.
20200617_195021.jpg
well I got the knock sensor wire re-wired, get the WB correctly hooked up (I believe), the plug for the fan properly wired up. Get excited go to turn the car on and nothing. Ugh

I have now gone through 3 new 30amp ignition fuses. I believe I have a short somewhere, i.just not to sure where at the moment. I started by going over what I had messed with myself. I didnt believe it was the fan plug, as I wired the wires together before I put the new plug on and the car fired right up and fan worked. But I unplugged the fan, and it still popped a fuse. I depinned the redone knock sensor wire, still popped the fuse, disconnected the WB. With the knock sensor wire depinned, and still popped a fuse. I need to trace everything now but I figured it had to be something I messed with as it ran prior to me messing with some wires.

I thought because when I redone the knock sensor wire I used a heat gun maybe i melted a couple wires together that was in the main wire harness, so i pulled alot of the tape back and still dont see anything. So I'm not to sure where I should start, I'm gonna start by checking all grounds that i know of. But I did relocate my battery to the trunk, which I need to post pics up of, with 0 gauge wire, so I think that part shall pass the test, but I'll check again. As well as I'm not great at diagnosing problems or great with a multi meter, but fixing to get better, cuz I dont like my talon being down for 3 weeks now(mainly due to time constraints)

But out of curiosity was this standard practice when doing wiring back in the day? Why would they do this like this? Dont mind the exposed wire, it is the o2 sensor wire that I cut(if i read correctly keeping it connected to ECU with WB sends multiple signals and that is not what you are wanting) but I hooked it up to see if that was the readin why the fuse popped and I believe it was not.

Also what is this? I have no clue. I dont remeber seeing it in my 90' when I gutted it.

Keep in mind that the Spal fan you have is their big daddy fan. It requires a heavy-duty relay and connector. Check out my build thread. I have the same fan. You probably overdid the wiring.

I will check that first then as soon as I get home...I will say in my defense, all the wiring that has been done to the car is from previous owne . And I'm fixing them as I go as needed. I know im not the greatest but, I feel I can do better then how some of this has been done that's for sure.

I have previously read your whole build thread, even subscribed to it, live what you been doing! But I'll go back through it and look for your fan setup
Thank you vegas

I would get the Spal connector which is like $15 and then buy another brand of relay. There's no way I would spend $125 on their relay kit. If you can't find a good relay, I can look up my part number. Thanks for following my build, a lot of nice stuff being added soon.

So when I got home started looking for the relay. But I really had no clue where to look LOL and the one place I think it's at, is not where I looked first:banghead: . But I looked closer and I actually have a mishimoto fan, and unfortunately no idea which one a.t.m as I'm pretty sure the numbers are facing the radiator....good news, I decided to unplug the a.c fan switch. When.i did I hooked everything up, and it fired right up, ran like it always has and fan turns on automatically at the normal temps. So I'm sure the problem lies in the relay as you suggested or a short along those wires, but at least its narrowed down. Either way thank you, I appreciate the help!

Looking forward to your updates!!!

So, I am utterly confused. Monday night 7-6, I pulled my center dash apart and unplugged everything. Put in a new ignition fuse, and car fired right up, and I let it idle to operating temp and fan cycled on and off like it is supposed to. Last night 7-7 I tried looking for the relay and.i think I'm blind, because I cant find it or idk what I'm looking for. I'm going for the latter of the two. But pulled 3 relays under driver side dash, none of them were it...I believe. Well I decided to start putting everything back together. I plugged in everything one by one. And after each individual I would start the car and try to get the ignition to blow, and it never did. I got everything plugged back in and everything is hooked up 100% including all my gauges as well. The car still fires up, fan still cycles. I can manually turn fan on and off, with no issues. Soooo what happened? Still a bad relay? Bad ground/short and I just moved the wires that was shorting out. What? What should i look for? Or did unplugging everything and plugging it back in reset it all? :idontknow::confused:

Let's hope you accidentally moved the shorted wires and it never comes back.
I hope so, but it still worries me, I dont wnat to be driving to work and it not start LOL, I have a 75 mile 1 way trip to work every day. I just want to enjoy it for the summer, with the plans of redoing alot of if not just all of the wiring and pulling the rest of the heat and a/c parts under the dash.

Well I still never officially figured out what was causing the short. But since then I have put in a new relay, with a dedicated switch to manually turn it off and on. I know some people hate that, It was getting late as it took forever how to figure out which way I was supposed to wire in the relay. To me the wire coloring and numbers did not match up. So come this winter that is another thing on my list of things to do to wire in the fan in the same way @Vegas Smith has his wired in. Never the less my fan works and I haven't had any issues, so I'm happy for that.

This is how it ended up being at the end.
Snapchat-9245010.jpg

This was a complete nightmare. I kept having to wire different wire to how I thought it should have been, until I figured out the correct combination.

As you can see I heated up the shrink wrap a little to much trying to get it to shrink smaller :ohdamn:
