Hello fellow DSM addicts!

I have a quick question that I'm sure all of you know (I'm a newbie). I have a 1997 Eclipse GS-T. This is my first car and first DSM that I picked for my first project car. My question is, can I run 91 octane fuel regularly? All gas stations around me sell 87 88 and 91. Only like one station 40 mins away sells 93 octane. Car is completely stock and I know if I plan to upgrade parts then I will have to run 93. Thanks!
 
92??? I don't ever remember seeing a sticker like that nor any that say 92. You have raised my interest now. Pics please?
 
Well you proved the stickers there but i don`t believe that one octane rating number should matter much.. Remember that different company`s rate there gas differently - while one will say 91 and the other 92 but they probable have the same proprieties Detergents , Cleaning agents Exc ... Next time your there you could ask for there ratings and then compare ..
 
I bought my 99 GST new and it says use premium but there's no minimum octane number posted there. In fact I've been using 88/89 octane for 20 years with no problem at all. I have no mods and only use it for daily driving and TSD rallying however. In the owners manual it says to use 91 minimum but that you can use 87 "however, the performance level may be reduced" although with everything being stock I haven't noticed any difference using 88 or 91.
 
I don't think that sticker is oem
My 1999 GST has the one on the fuel door but not the one saying "Warning Use 92 or higher octane fuel only" anywhere in that area or any sticker mentioning any minimum octane anywhere on the car. I know because I bought the car new and never parted with it since (and no repaint in that fuel door area). So someone most likely added that (maybe even some dealer). And as I said my 1999 owners manual says use 91 octane, not 92 so it's not even factory correct anyway (unless 1997 is somehow different, although they both use the same 2gb engine).
 
Do you think the ECM would be able to tell the octane rating ... is there a sensor in there we don`t know about . The reason I ask is I have a fast idle ... I added that 104 octane boost .. Maybe this is why it idle`s fast ???????..

Ecu uses feedback from the knock sensor to retard timing. On a stock turbo setup if continues ecu will close the boost solenoid and lower boost. So while it doesn't know what octane you have it can change conditions based on what it detects. No the octane boost will not cause your fast idle
