Hi my name is chris i bought a 98 eclipse that had a blown piston and it blew a hole in the cylinder so i bought another engine for it but im doing a rebuild on it. I have taken off the bigger harmonic balancer pulley but i was wondering what puller i need to take off the smaller pulley behind it so i can split the block and replace the bearings and take the crank to the machine shop, any advice would be appreciated, thanks

What engine does your car have?

If you have a 420a, you'll need a steering wheel/hub puller to remove the lower timing gear from the crank.

Something like this:

If you have a 4g63/4g64, then as Tony said, you can use a impact to remove the large center bolt, then the timing gear should slide off with little effort.

I have the 420a. See i rented tht from auto zone but the bolts they provided weren't the right size so ill try that again

You'll just need to get some bolts that are the right thread pitch. I don't recall what size, maybe m10 or m8x1.25?

A steering wheel puller is what you need. The bolts are M6 if I remember correctly. And you need really long ones. I have some that are about 75mm, they are hard to find local. If you have a Fastenal local, they will sell threaded rod you can buy and just cut it to length.

I had to fight with this bolt when I was doing the timing on my eclipse.

Step 9 goes over removal of the pulley bolt. The actual bolt is an m12x1.75mmx87.50.

What I did was following the 2gnt guide I went and got an OEM Chrysler harmonic balancer puller (this tool does not provide the length needed to pull the balancer fuller off) to solve the length issue I went and got an m12x1.75mmx120mm from home depot.

I did this with my engine in the engine bay and the 120mm was slightly too long and I had to fight with positioning to remove the balancer and it sucked, if you have the engine out of the car you won't run into this issue. I used a 120mm because of the tool I got and didn't want length to be an issue.

Hope this helps!

420 used to have one.
If you havnt taken off that harmonic balancer, you're going to need to apply a great amount of heat to the neck of the crack with a small torch and tons of lubricant. They are a pain to remove. That's if it's not frozen onto the crank. Dont hammer it out aggressively, tap the lower sides as best as you can while you crank on the pulley puller you use.
Good luck
