Hey guys so I have my 92 eagle talon tsi awd and I noticed the rad has a pin hole in it and rad fan doesn’t work and when I got the car I seen a Honda half rad in the back(seems to be stock) it doesn’t look like it has any holes in it and I was wondering if I could swap it in to stop the car from over heating I just want to drive my car to a meet on the 1st it may and don’t know if I can use it any information would be greatly appreciated thanks guys!!

I may not be 100% correct, but here is my few cents worth. A civ half rad is designed to cool a 1.6 n/a single cam engine, not a 4g63t duel cam boosted engine. I think a half rad is smaller then a normal dsm radiator so you will lose a decent amount of cooling efficiency and alot of civic owners actually swap it out for a full size rad. Now assuming you can make it fit in and hoses not be crimped with the difference in ergonomics, I'm not sure how you are going to hook up the civ fans to the connector on the harness. If it is a pine hole then use some jb weld if you must or just go buy a new one. I personally would try not to do this swap, but what do I know.

also keep in mind that our blocks are cast iron, not aluminum like a hondas, so our blocks are way harder to cool. but with a thick aluminum honda rad say from mistimoto and a high flow fan with a proper fan schroud it will work

I have a civic rad 3 row on my 2g. Used 2g silicon hoses that i cut to fit. I will look for a picture. Works fine and tuned it fine with high flow Mishimoto race fan.

I ran a big core honda radiator/shroud and the biggest..baddest spal fan I could fit for a while.
It cooled ok, but not well enough in the hottest summer months after a couple 3rd gear pulls.
Went to a 2g aftermarket setup instead. Not sure if it'll cool better or not as the car is under construction.
The honda stuff is now sitting in my garage.

I've used one for almost 10 years now. I wouldn't recommend it for a daily driver. You lean heavily on the fan to keep things in check. If it's above 90 degrees out I dare not bother. Sitting in traffic when it's 75+ out is basically an impossibility. Perhaps it would be better with an expensive core and legit fan and perfect duct work, but I doubt it. The surface area to cooling ability ratio is just not there.

Okay awesome thanks guys yeah i guess it’s an upgraded Honda rad that was on a boosted integra and cooled that thing pretty well but not sure how it would work on the talon I guess I could give it a try and if it doesn’t work just grab a better one from rockauto

it doesnt cool our motors because we have cast iron blocks, any honda, acura boosted or all motors it will be fine for because there cast aluminum blocks. so dont daily a honda rad of any type

Might be a little late but Im running a 3 inch Honda half rad with a puller fan. Car has a 180 degree thermostat but never goes above 190. If you get a race quality Honda half rad it will pry be better but again this is a light to light car and not a handling/ daily build.

Fair enough man yeah I was either gonna run an upgraded half rad or go back to stock but I’ve heard that the block is cast iron not aluminum so it gets hotter requiring more cooling

Unless your absolutely need a half rad. Forward faced turbo ect, I would always run a full size. Cars on e85 also can get away with less cooling as it keeps cylinder temps lower.
