Compression test a motor that’s been sitting for a while

How long has it been sitting? Has it ever had oil in it?

Can always put a few drops of marvel mystery oil or your preferred brand in the plug holes to lube it. If the bottom end has assembly lube then it should be ok for compression tests, even better if the oil pump is packed so it'll circulate some oil around.

If it's a fresh motor, I'd check those things before testing. If it's sat for an extremely long period, oil in the cylinders should be enough, as the bottom end will still.have oil film and potentially still pull oil up after cranking.

I hope that works out for you! Dam good deal on it if so! :thumb:

Hope so too Marty! This way I can take my time and build it so she won't be down for too long. Hell the CAS alone is a good portion of that.

No spare tranny/starter/plate setup for compression tests?? And you call yourself a dsm'r.... Haha LOL

LOL. I threw my old pp out but do have an extra tranny and starter is only two bolts. I should be able to turn the crank with an impact and still read compression?

Fudgeeeee! Can’t go back to sleep :banghead:

A true DSMer has TWO of everything ROFL

Once it makes compression on the gauge it'll just be hammering on the crank bolt. Could always make a run for some bolts, or pull the head. I'm sure you'll work it out Tony!

Wife want to run around today. Won’t make it out there today and guy says he has a potential buyer

I should. I have 2 of MOST things but I am missing a spare auto trans. Plenty of 5 speeds tho.

I would do a leakdown over compression test. No need for starter/flywheel. Just set that cylinder to tdc and test.

Ive only been at it since October, and already have 2 (or more) of a bunch of things, even cars:D

I'm making LOTS of money off my "inventory" because everyone is home, working on their DSM's ROFL

We need to give you vendor/moderator title :sneaky:

Guy seems annoyed I couldn’t come. If I bought it, it would be with a contingency that if it’s bad, I’m brining it back or partial refund dependent on the condition.
